Following up from last week's post, while the goblins looked nice, they didn't fit my mental image of the cute shortstack gobbos that I think of when I imagine all my favorite goblin girl designs. But when you make a character with big eyes, a bigger head, smaller bodies, you have to be very careful that no one can mistake the character for a child, especially in the adult sphere. I think Ail...

Designing new characters can be tricky, but Aila has a knack for it, but one thing that we went back and forth on a lot was these two goblins. On one hand, you want them to look the part, goblins are short humanoid characters, and if you're not careful, they can look like children. That's a terrible problem in an adult game. This is the first design for the goblins that Aila went through, and...

I didn't realise how much Annaposting I'd done lately, so here's some Jan! In Night Three, she's dressed as a vampire. Maybe you're picking up some kind of theme here ;D
Maybe I put too much thought into the magic system for Love Sucks, it's probably just my love for hard magic systems coming though. I like it when things just make sense, and a part of that is the way that different beings do magic differently. This was shown prominently in Night Two when Dr Blankenship and Naomi were discussing the spell!
This is the completed paperdoll for Anna in Night Three! You might remember the black and pink design from a while ago, and while I still love that look, the white one suited Anna more.
But this is also a nice time to briefly talk about the way we need to design things. Whenever we make an image, whether it's a paperdoll, background, full screen CG, basically anything that...

A test for the possibility of animations! Maybe we'll have them, maybe we won't, but the first step is always to try it and see what works and what doesn't! So here's an annamation :D
The fact someone is dying... and then dying, and dying and dying again causes quite an issue in the realm of the reapers. Is the MC alive, or is he dead? The paperwork no longer makes sense! I've had the idea for a long time that Theo's repeated deaths are causing some poor psychopmp a massive headache, prompting them to come out and scream at him like Resetti from Animal Crossing, but as we ...

One year ago today, Love Sucks Night Two came out. And frankly I can't believe it's been a year.
Part of me is still in disbelief that I released a game on steam, and how much of my life has changed because I released a game on steam. Yes, lots of games release, but you'd be surprised to know that we're still within the top 4% of sellers on steam. It's a cutthr...

In the era of human expansion, monsters need to look human to avoid being exposed. For some, this is easy. A pair of sunglasses and a big hat, for others, it needs some deeper physical changes. But there are many ways to hide a monster.
There's always room for a little action in the silly monster romance game. It was fun in Night Two, so N3 has some too! I won't spoil any more of this scene though!
Some of you may remember Cadence, the girl from the Kissing Booth, and Dr Blankenship's niece! While she was introduced in Night Two, and had an extremely brief appearance in a couple of area intros/outros afterwards, she didn't show up again. But in Night Three, the budding young witch lady will have more of a presence!
For Night Three, Love Sucks will be in the third dimension to keep up with modern gaming trends. We're excited to see what awaits us with this emerging new technology. Goodbye hand-drawn, 2D graphics! Hello Love Sucks Night 3D!
I was trying to pick a generic name and I landed on Josh as a placeholder.
See, everybody knows the basic visual novel mechanic of naming your character. I hadn't figured out how to use that name in full force yet. So we wrote Josh all over the place.
Once I figured it out and implemented, we did a find on 'Josh; and...
Prisms! An addition to the Love Sucks lore about magic and the use of it in the world. You may have seen Addy with these in Night Two when she tried to cast a spell.
After a few designs and interactions, we have Anna's costume for Night Three! At least, for now. There's always the chance it could change again, but this it! Also, one of the other color choices that Aila went though. The darker one looks super nice, but the light one suits Anna and her character better! What do you think? And what could be the meaning of this outfit?
Here is some more clips of the mythical girl mode that's being worked on on the side. Today, it's more of the scene where Dr Blankenship and Naomi have an alleged 'orgy' with Sarah!
If you thought Dr Blankenship was tall, wait until you see the librarian, and some of you may already know her as Tiamat, the OC of our good friend Midlight. How she will be involved with the story remains a mystery, but she's sure to leave an impression! Here's the first sketch of her and her outfit, but if you're a part of our Discord server, you've probably seen this lady before!

Love Sucks has always had self-acceptance as one of its major themes. Perhaps their Night Three costumes being a succubus and a vampire is a little on the nose, but I like to call it symbolic instead. Besides, I've always said this game about monster girls should have the girls looking like monsters more!
Happy Valentines Day, from us to you, whether you celebrate or not, we love you, if only you would text us back. We even gave you really high-res versions of these to use as wallpapers, and if you want other versions, with/without the hand, another background, just ask me in the Patreon channel in Discord!
In our latest addition to the new characters introduced in Night Three, we have Valiant and Intrepid, two goblins! One is an American girl who loves big engines, specialising in mechanics, and the other is a sneaky British goblin alchemist who knows about all the chemicals under your kitchen sink. They were on the run, but now they're conscripted into something bigger than them. What could th...

After several years, the year of the tiger, rabbit, dragon and now snake are all together as one! Addy couldn't be more thrilled (to not be a frog) Happy #ChineseNewYear #ChineseNewYear2025 !! 🐍
Today I have for you another entry in our lore book series. As magic plays a big part in the world of love sucks, there are several entries on magic, and the nature of it. I like it when making systems have rules for what they can and can't do. It makes a world feel more realistic. I think I said that last time, but for this week's post, here is magic, as contained within a magic user for use...

Sarah as the protagonist won't be here for a while, but bit by bit, we're still working on it between N3 stuff. Here's a combo mode version of the "Why not both?" scene in Night One! A lot of combo mode art involves changing an art pretty substantially, sometimes it will involve a different scene or positioning all together, but sometimes, it just works with very small changes, like this one!...

HAPPY NEW YEAR! This year, I would like to start the new year by showing a (very) early picture of one of the new characters that may be introduced in Night Three, currently unnamed other than being called FED. Who are they? What will they do? Perhaps 2025 will reveal the answers 👀
Another year is coming to a close, and this has been one of the finest years of my life, and all of you people played no small part in that. I am beyond happy to have been able to release Night Two this year, and while I don't yet know when Night Three will be ready, I am so excited to dive back into hell and work towards doing it all over again, because it really has been one of the most rew...

I never liked systems where magic was just something indescribable that could do anything the plot needed it to do. The best magic systems are ones with clear, and consistent rules. Where it has defined limitations, and situations where it can and can't help, and specific people who can only do certain things. While magic is certainly very useful to hand wave some things, it should, at th...
In Night Two, pretty much everything centered around the carnival, and choosing where to go was just a list. In Night Three, we want to make that a little more interesting, so we're going to make it a map of the town, where you can click where you'd like to go instead!
While we work on N3, we still haven't forgotten about promises we made a long time ago. As always, the day of it's eventual update is far away as we focus more on finishing the game you're all expecting, but work on combo mode continues! (combo mode, for anyone who doesn't know, is our name for an option to make the player character Sarah, with a weiner!)
