Revenge of the Sorcerer King 2-5

Hey Guys. Sorry a little late this morning, busy at work. How do you feel about me making the chapter's solo povs?

Chapter 5

Alessa

“You can stay here mom,” I said showing her the room next to me.

“Thank you dear. It will be nice to sleep on an actual bed,” she replied with a smile. The journey was rough. Oberon forced the mortals to sleep in the wagons while we moved. I could tell something was making him edgy, but I didn’t feel I should pry considering I was basically forcing him to take all these people with us.

“I’ll be around if you need. Vaunn can usually find me quickly.”

My mother nodded then headed into the room. I waved awkwardly not sure if I should follow her or not but decided to leave her alone like Oberon said. She needed time. I didn’t want to pressure her and inadvertently push her away. I closed the door then left for the garden.

It had been over a month. I wanted to see what magic the fairies worked while we were gone. The castle looked amazing. When we left only the area around the throne room was repaired enough for people to move around. The rest of the halls were almost like a maze with debris littering the floor.

Now, the castle almost appeared to glow from the magic thrumming in it. All the damage caused by the passage of time was gone. The Fairies had worked hard to decorate the passageways with artwork. Pictures and weaves lined the wall, though their images were lost on me as they showed history from several thousand years as the fairies remembered it.

I made it to the doors to the garden. I was about to reach out and push them open when they opened for me. I looked but didn’t see anyone on the other side. I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised considering this was the castle of the once most powerful sorcerers in the world. With the core getting mana, I was sure all sorts of magics will come back to life.

The moonlight washed over the garden in an almost warm way. The plants had tended to while I was gone and was fully inhabiting the yard. The Death Blossom in the center of the courtyard was almost the size of a tree. The miasma coiled around it and was almost thick enough to be physical.

“Scardy girl!” I heard call from one side of the garden. Looking, I saw Gobluke sitting in one of the trees.

“Gobluke. Did you miss us?” I asked honestly pleased to see the little goblin.

“No. Big Skeley boss us around. Him gone, we boss.”

“You didn’t do anything you shouldn’t, did you?” I asked narrowing my eye at him.

“Went, got clan. Made new home,” Gobluke said pounding his fist on his chest.

“You better go ask Oberon if that was okay. You don’t want him to obliterate them all thinking they are trying to invade his city.” While I was sure he wouldn’t just launch an attack without getting all the information, he might have something happen and need to relieve stress.

Gobluke’s eye widen in horror. “I be back!” he turned and took off running into the castle. I moved over and sat on the bench then proceeded to zone out staring at the stars.

“I’ve known more than one vampire meet their end from daydreaming while staring at the stars. Though, I guess you wouldn’t have that issue.” I heard Helena say from next to me.

“What are you doing?” I asked more just to start some idle chatter.

“I was exploring, but… there’s not much to look around these parts. Unless you like sand that is.” I nodded to her statement. There was indeed plenty of sand to look at around her.

“I wonder if Oberon can change that?” I said with a finger on my chin.

“If he can, we need to make sure its his idea or he’ll rub it in for weeks that he could do something we couldn’t,” Helena said with a smirk.

I laughed. “Very true.”

“Get a feeling for your next form yet?” Helena asked changing the subject.

“Nope. Haven’t got a clue,” I said throwing my hands into the air. I leaned back on the bench with a sigh. I really hope it wasn’t a life or death situation that allows me to unlock my new form.

“We’ll figure something out. I could have Oberon create a giant pit to throw you in,” Helena said with a thoughtful expression.

“Would that kill me?” I asked with a squint.

“If I told you that would remove the danger now wouldn’t it.”

I glared at her but could only sigh in reply. I hung my head then stood up from the bench. “I’m going for a walk,” I said.

“Have fun,” she said waving.

I made up way over to the wall then jumped. I easily cleared the twenty meters and landed on the walkway. Undead and a few fairies were patrolling. They just glanced at me then continued on their way. I walked to the edge and stared out over the city. It appeared the castle was the only thing that’d been repaired.

I blinked and turned my gaze to the west. The Fairy district was a blaze with light. It looked like magic was flying left and right. Figures flashed through the air moving around. I wondered what they could be working on so late at night. Maybe they were adjusting their schedule to match their undead leader.

I couldn’t wait to explore their district when everything had settled down. We rescued my mother, but when Oberon used her blood, he would be able to locate more of his family. I wrinkled my brow at the thought of being distantly related to some elves or dwarves. I was laid back when it came to the other races, but they all had their quarks that they’ve earned.

I shook my head to clear the thoughts away. I knew that Oberon had been very powerful in his day. Many of the races feared and respected him. It was only natural they would try to… earn his favor. ‘The things people in power do to stay in power.’ I thought with a sigh.

Turning, I took in the north side of the city. It and the east were barren still. I spotted a few places were monster had wandered in and were being hunted by undead. The Specters would swoop down and strike at something. The Crypt had been busy, just in this section of the city, I counted ten specters. That was quite a force, considering the nature of the creatures.

I stayed out on the wall for the rest of the night. I probably would have stayed even longer had Zriq not sent someone to find me. I nodded to the messenger when they told me Oberon wanted me to report to the throne room. I was sure the man couldn’t sit still for more than a few hours. Well, I should be glad I was just included in this, and not treated like a child.

Quickly making my way off the wall, then into the castle, I only took a minute to get to the throne room. I found Oberon, mother, the elder of the fairies, and Sarius waiting for me. I’d completely forgotten about Sarius when we arrived at the city. It looked like he’d fed at least. I would have to find out what.

“Alessa. I figured you’d want to be here for this,” Oberon said when he saw me enter.

“What are we doing?” I asked curious to what trouble we might be getting into now.

“I’m going to use some of your mother’s blood to see what remains of my family line on the human side.”

I nodded not sure I really had anything to contribute to the decision. Zriq moved forward and handed my mother a dagger and a bowl. She cut her palm and filled the bowl until Oberon motioned for her to stop. My sight zeroed in on the blood, but I was able to ignore the impulse rather easily. Zriq grabbed her hand and a pulse of mana left his hand healing the wound. He then took the bowl over to Oberon.

He placed his hand over the bowl and magical runes started to float around him. His voice took an ethereal tone that his higher-level magic required. I’d learned from Ted that is was the language of language. He believes the Hero internalized the language when he caused the World Shift. Frankly, it was all over my head.

I looked around wondering where Ted had gotten off to. I’d think that he’d want to be here for this. He loved all things magic and necromancy. Oberon reached a crescendo and I refocused on him. With a burst of light, a globe of light formed around him. I could vaguely see the outline of continents.

“Hmm. Ameire, are you sure you didn’t have any sisters or brothers?” Oberon asked her mother. Ameire blinked at the question obviously surprised.

“Not that I know of. My situation is much like Alessa’s. When I was young, my father who carried the blood of the Family, was taken. I was unable to learn anything as I was only one or two. Thankfully, my mother saved our lives and fled. I learned of my situation when I was able to understand.”

“I see. So you only know of your father?” Mother nodded. “Interesting.”

“What is it?” I asked wondering what he found out.

“Well. Its just that I found quite a few more in the bloodline than I expected to,” Oberon said rubbing his chin as he examined the map.

“Really!” My mother and I both said as we rushed up the throne steps.

“A few random points, with a large concentration in the East.”

“Amazing! We need to reach out to them! Maybe they will come to us,” I said grabbing my mother’s hand and bouncing up and down. I coughed when I realized what I was doing and quickly stopped.

“They are almost on the other side of the continent. We don’t currently have the means to reach out to them or to cross that distance in a timely and safe manner. I will make a record of these points and their mana feeling so we might find them later.”

“Why can’t you teleport yet?” I asked with a pout.

Oberon burst out laughing and patted my head. “Eventually.”
