Should you use Maschine+ for live sets? & Patreon EXCLUSIVE live set video

Hi there!

While I had performed live in a "previous life" - for as long as I've had the channel, I've never actually got on stage and put a set together, so when my friend Tomer AKA Animals and Synthesizers, invited me to play a short live set at his album launch party - it was a good opportunity to get out of my studio comfort zone and put a live set together.

This video documents the thought process behind choosing the gear for the setup and reproducing tracks that were made with entirely different gear on a single "platform"/choice of gear.

For those of you interested, I've created an unlisted video of the four-song set as a Patreon exclusive, ad-free stream. I would have attached it as a download but the file is too big and I didn't want to compress it too much, so here's a link to the video. Please don't share it, it's for Patrons only!

All my best,

Ziv (now occasionally also playing live, not just on a youtube channel called "Loopop"...)

Hey Darius - first, thanks for your long-time support - much appreciated! To the point, there's no specific integration between launchpad and M+, I just made a custom layout on my launch pad that sends the MIDI notes M+ expects to see to change to specific scenes. To activate this, you need to turn on MIDI Change in M+, which lets you control scenes, sections or locks using notes or program changes. For a nice step by step description search MIDI change in the manual (it's section 13.1). I mapped the notes manually to make it match the colors and arrangement of scenes on M+ so that it would be easy to use and remember. I hope this helps!

Please, how do you control the M+ with your Launchpad? Thx for sharing all your knowledge ..

Sorry just saw this message.... anyway, feel free to ask me here or via DM. Basically - each song lives in its own bank; within a bank, each part got its own group (lead, bass, arp, etc) in some songs drum kits got their own group, but in some I broke apart the snare from the kick to their own group so that I can control their level and mutes separately. I only cheated in one song that only needed one group, so I put it together with another song that needed 6 and the send, so I'd have less banks overall. I wouldn't do it again, though, I'd keep each song in its own bank, and have a separate bank for sends/incoming audio

Totally understand. I was mainly interested when you mentioned how you decided to set up groups and banks, and I got a bit confused on how you had it set up.

Thanks - for now I've decided not to share it here sorry... I really appreciate your ongoing support but it feels kind of like "source code" I'll like to keep for now in terms of the samples and sounds beyond what I show in the video... if I decide to go open source I'll share it here for sure!

I would love to see the Maschine project file for this setup.

yeah, in this case is pretty hard. Though Deluge as a standalone machine can be very powerful. If you're remembering everything in it you're moving very fast. It's also very small, compact, pretty much a workhorse for it's size. And not that much menu diving as the rest, but only shortcuts to remember.

I address this in the video - it is indeed a contender, but it doesn't have enough direct control knobs (macros, mixing), you can't label patterns/scenes so you have to remember everything by heart/color-coded, and it was important for me to be able to create the project both on a computer and on the device.

Why not Deluge? For me it's top in this segment.
