SmplTrek: a jack of many trades, but does it master any? (+outro download)

Hi!

SmplTrek from Sonicware is an affordable and portable sampler, looper, sequencer, and multi-track recorder with a list of features that seems to rival a full-fledged DAW. But, since as usual, you can't win them all, compromises were made. The screen is very small in light of what's packed into it, the workflow is clunky at times and many of the features are basic.

In this video I take a look at what's there and how deep (or not) it goes!

Attached for those interested is a video download of the outro.

All my best,

Ziv (exploring how deep advertised features go on a youtube channel called "Loopop"...)

Thanks! I honestly don't know, I can't imagine when I'd prefer to use a speaker like this instead of headphones, even though as I show in the video, it's not the worst I've ever heard

I’m impressed with Sonicware’s effort to be “in the game”! They seem to be making some versatile and affordable gear! But, with the exception of the ARP 2600, putting a speaker in an electronic instrument usually turns it into a toy. Why didn’t they put a screen akin to the Wavestate e.g. and nuke the speaker? Great, comprehensive review!

My pleasure!

Seems like a fun a little DAW in a box, with some clear limitations. Thanks for reviewing.
