Polyend Play Review + Superbooth 1st day done

Hi there!

First thing's first - there's a link in this post to my review of Polyend's Play. I usually send you all an email as soon as I publish, but the Patreon app wasn't having any of it at the show.

It's interesting to write this as I read the comments section to the video now that a few hours have gone by - quite a polarizing instrument! As I mention in the video, IMHO it raises the bar for grooveboxes on the sequencing and performance side, but is relatively limited on the sample/sound design side, at least for this version of the firmware. All the details are in the video.

And then for Superbooth, it's a treat as always! Such an amazing and lovely synth party.

I don't have any "projects", multi synth mashups or competitions this year, just spending time meeting people and getting insights into what's here and what's planned, trying to pick and choose the most interesting things to review.

Tomorrow is my last day at the show so if you have anything you'd like me to check out please let me know (I still have a few to do items I've not forgotten from the previous post)

I'm posting little snippets on Instagram and on my newly started tiktok - mainly for people who don't like Instagram...

The highlight so far for me was Soma's TERRA - they've done it again. Its looks are somewhat odd (what you see now isn't the final instrument), but it's a fully expressive instrument, has an interesting built in synth engine and original controls. Don't expect a review though yet, it won't be finished for at least a few months. Erica's SYNTRX II also looks impressive, but its sound isn't quite fine tuned yet either.

I won't bother you with another post about the show unless I have something earth shattering to say. Rather - I'll just respond to comments here and in my previous post if I get any questions, and there are few extra bits on socials as I mentioned above.

All my best,

Ziv (roaming FEZ Berlin looking for interesting topics to cover in the coming months on a youtube channel called "Loopop"...)

cool good to know

I did email Polyend and they were helpful about other stuff but the MIDI questions weren't answered. I see by the 1.01 update that they were probably aware of some of these issues. Hah. Thanks for pointing me at that. I had just stopped checking.

Bummer. is it bugs or just not the functionality you expected? Did you email the company? The have introduced MANY updates to Tracker, my guess is it will be the same here. Also I assume you updated the firmware? They issued a major bug fix recently

I did end up getting one of these and I must say for MIDI, it's a big disappointment. For samples it lives up to everything you demoed. I just can't get it to play nice with MIDI- no pressure, no sustain on notes, resetting to the wrong channel every time.

The announcements coming out of the show are pretty meh. I don't know what I was expecting but I held off on any major equipment purchases until I knew if anything exciting was coming out. The Terra looks interesting but will wait to see if it fits in my workflow. I have the Lyra-8 so anything else might be overkill for drones. I guess I'll wait to see what's announced at the NAMM Show.
