MV-1 BYOS / Chaos ambient track+thoughts download

Hi there!

A mini double-feature here for small updates - I didn't want to clog your inbox twice so here they are together:

1. One of the biggest flaws of the MV-1 from Roland is it's small screen. It's workable for the tone sound design parameters, but things get quite hard to control with the multi effects and master compressor/limiter/EQ parameters. I still managed to pull of a full track with it which I think came out quite nice, but I admit to not mastering/EQing it as much as I would have liked had those parameters been more accessible.

With the new update, Roland lets you use an iPhone/iPad/Android device/Mac/PC as a "Bring Your Own Screen" for clip launching, and full mixing and parameter editing controls for most of its available parameters (though not the vocal processor yet).

The linked video is a brief review of how that integration works.

2. A few days ago I published a 5 minute ambient jam with text overlay thoughts about Chaos by Clank on Instagram and Facebook. I also posted an update linking to those videos on my YouTube community page, but it seems way more people than I thought avoid both platforms... so, I've attached the video for download here in case you missed it.

Chaos is a fun six track "turing machine" style sequencer that doesn't take up much space, so if you need both of those - it's worth a look!

All my best,

Ziv (glad I chose to post as Loopop on YouTube - a platform you're not avoiding yet!)

I have a Behringer Eurorack with a Model D and two Neutrons. The Neutron has the patch bay from hell; both are paraphonic so can be quite multivoiced with a few clicks of the MIDI channel. Glorious.

Cool! Looking forward to hearing your feedback - I think the zenbeats software isn't that necessary for building a song, but the mastering tools certainly benefit from a screen

Coming back around to this after sitting with it for a month or so. In perhaps a moment of weakness, I took the plunge on an MV-1. What is appealing to me is not the supposed simplicity, but the boundaries. I wrote my first album WAY back in the day on a VS-880 paired with an MC-50, and I have to say while I love the 80,000 options from Logic Pro, there’s something about “sit down and finish” that I don’t ever seem to get with my DAW. I’ve been on the lookout for a way to compose away from the computer for a while, and the small boxes I’ve tried (notably the Analog Rythm MKII and the Polyend Tracker) both have real limitations for the kind of music I write — more traditional songs with instrumentation and vocal layers. The MV-1 looks like a way to fill a desire to have a standalone writing station that doesn’t require me to deal with MacOS. I see it more as a mobile sketchpad than a DAW replacement, but I’ll keep you posted on how it turns out for me!
