Soundforce SFC-60 - Does it make sense to buy a MIDI controller dedicated to a plugin synth?

Hi!

There are a few reasons to get a hardware synth: sound, hands-on control, getting away from a computer, avoiding CPU limitations.

Computer issues aside, from a sound perspective, software plug-ins are getting anywhere from pretty darn good to indistinguishable from their hardware counterparts, whether digital or analog.

SoundForce is a small company from the Netherlands that's attempting to give you all the comfort of hardware controls and all the benefits of software plugins.

But does it make sense to get a controller that's dedicated to a software plugin? That's the topic I explore in this video, including a few interesting alternatives in the form of inexpensive synths that can send MIDI CC commands.

Attached to this video is a download of the intro/outro jam, which I guess can now officially be called the "Loopop theme"...

All my best,

Ziv (lusting slightly less for a Juno 60 on youtube as "Loopop"...)

Hey Jason, I'm not familiar with it at all.. this just sends CCs on a single channel, so if the FB-01 accepts them, it should be fine (note - no MIDI out, only USB)

So theoretically I could use this for say, my ancient FB-01?

My pleasure :) Thanks for the reply, I didn't expect that vendors would be going to the length of rewriting the firmware of an existing product to implement a new protocol - that is fantastic news! Looking forward to seeing all the developments this is going to enable in the upcoming months.

Hi Andi! Nicolas actually told me he would be open to implementing this as a firmware update once MIDI 2.0 synths start showing up. Indeed that would be fantastic! Thanks for your ongoing support BTW :)
