Goldilocks brains? Erica BLACK SEQUENCER Review // track download

Hi,

Well, looks like it's sequencer week! I've had the pre-production Black Sequencer from Erica Synths for about a month, and it has come quite a long way in that time. It's still not fully baked, but there's enough where it's ready for a review.

I've reviewed quite a few Eurorack sequencers on the channel - Rene 2, USTA, Vector, Hermod and more, and the evolution and refinement of what makes a good sequencer continues.

Sequencing is always a balance between power and usability, and Black Sequencer strikes a very interesting "goldilocks" zone between the two.

Can it be the brain of a Eurorack setup? Get the full details in the video; and the intro/outro track is attached to this post for those interested.

All my best,

Ziv (seeking goldilocks brains on youtube as "Loopop"...)

Hi Stefan - unfortunately I was still using the beta for this video where they hadn't get settled on a file format, and the final firmware made my project incompatible - so it's gone forever. However, I didn't use any arp or ratchets, that's for sure. If memory serves me right the patterns were just running at different speeds - no magic!

Thanks very much for the kind words - that's great company to be in!

Also love your vids, such a wealth of pleasured learning. You, divkid and Andrew Huang have completely replaced Netflix and movies. Haha!

If you still have the patterns saved in the Black Sequencer, would you mind sharing them? Not sure if there’s an easy way to do that but it’s hard to see from the video what patterns and settings you’re using. I’ve watched the video 10+ times and love what you’re able to make but can’t get close... I think the two offset timings on the Arps might be the thing. Curious if you used the ARP function of the sequencer with a ratchet and a 1/8th scale or a limited quantized magic setting?
