Hi!
Six operators in a digital synth - we've heard that story before... and yet thinking that of Korg's new opsix leaves out a large chunk of the story.
First, the big news here I think is the interface - six faders and knobs directly connected to operator level and frequency, makes playing operators as immediate and hands-on as a filter cutoff knob (oddly, opsix doesn't have a filter cutoff knob, but that's a problem I fix in the patch ideas section of video...)
I've reviewed attempts at simplifying and expanding "operator synthesis" with the Digitone, and implementations in the MODX and Iridium, this IMHO is the best yet.
I'm intentionally not saying FM, first because it's really phase modulation, but even more so in the case of opsix, where phase modulation is just one of five different possible modes for an operator.
Since this is a synth I think will appeal to a lot of people, I made my video very beginner-friendly, but I think it gets up to speed fast and then starts dealing with the new stuff.
So - that's it - for now....!
All my best,
Ziv (operating operators on youtube as "Loopop"...)
