Double feature! Roland TR-6S and Boss RC-500

Hi!

As you may know, when I get pre-release review gear sent in, I accept no conditions on my content except one: the time I can hit "publish" on a video (also called an "embargo" time).

This is also why you often see multiple content creators release videos at the same time, whether it's music tech gear, cameras, phones, and I assume also new lipstick product videos.

Little did I know when I accepted the TR-6S and RC-500 for review (Roland and Boss are the same company), that they'd set the same embargo date and time for both.

So, long story short, you're getting two videos for the price of one today:

  1. An in-depth comparison between Roland's new TR-6S, the mini-me version of the 8S, alongside the MC-101 - check it out here
  2. An in-depth look at the RC-500 - it's "just" a two track looping pedal, but its customization options are what make it interesting in my book - check that out here

So, "that's it" for today!

All my best,

Ziv (hoping not to do more double features any time soon on "Loopop"...)

P.S.

I've included as an attachment a download of the RC-500/0-Coast/Shallow Water/Empress reverb jam to this post

Indeed like I say in my video - if you watch both videos, you'll know what I know. In general 101 as more sonic power, circuit tracks is easier to use and better at sequencing external gear

Thank you! If I could ask one more thing.. I see the new circuit tracks gives the 101 a run for its money. I really like the thousands of Roland sounds. The presets to me I’m gonna guess will be more appealing and warm, especially paired w the digital sounding hydra. I see circuit tracks has 2 extra midi tracks and a lot of the features now of the 101. Do you think the new features of the circuit tracks are enough to warrant getting it instead? I hear the sequencing workflow is easier w circuit. But the 101 has better make a whole song abilities. (But maybe circuit tracks is catching up in that regard and effects?) Keeping in mind I can also sequence the hydra w keystep 37. Unless I could live loop w the circuit and get rid of the 505 or something... And if this question is way too complex and you don’t want to answer, I get it. Haha. Noob here.

Enjoy!

Ok nice. It seems it could work nicely. I also have a boss 505. Which I’m thinking could be more for live vocals and other instruments for a really cool live jamming setup. Just gotta figure out all the audio and midi I/o for everything lol. I printed out your Jan book btw... :)

KS37 only sends notes on one channel, so you'd need to tell HS or 101 to either listen to it or ignore it. 101 can sequence MIDI but you'd be "wasting" a track for that.

Ok cool! What if I want to play notes on the 101 with the keystep 37? I can do that right? And then sequencing the hydrasynth would need to be from the keystep? Cuz 101 doesn’t have midi tracks...?

Hydrasynth - excellent choice ;) - has a MIDI thru, so you could go KS37 -> HS -> MC101 - you'd need to make sure MC-101 only receives clock and doesn't listen to notes from KS-37 (I don't remember the settings by heart but I'm pretty sure there's a way...)

Ah shoot. I meant keystep 37. How do I connect these all together?
