Transform your synth: 10 semi-modular pairing ideas shown with Moog Matriarch

Hi!

Semi-modular synths. You can't save presets. The patch cables are a hassle. Who needs 'em?

Well, for one, Eurorack pairings are your best shot at transforming a synth into something very different than what you got when you bought it.

In this video, I explore 10 such ideas with Moog's Matriarch, plenty of which should be relevant for other semi-modular synths.

A word about the download attached to this post: specifically to Matriarch, many of the patch points that are useful for extending it are on the back and unfortunately aren't labeled on the top panel.

Remembering what they were and accessing them was such a hassle while making this video that I had to make a little cutout I could stick somewhere to remind me where they were and what they are. I've attached it to this post. If you have a Matriarch, you just might find it useful!

All my best,

Ziv (using arts and crafts templates is now part of the work done on the youtube channel "Loopop"...)

EDIT: Patron Steven Goldberg sent in another cutout option in case you have more real-estate to place it on, it's quite nice!

yeah indeed it would be hard to match the key you press to the right oscillator

I had a question for you. New to my Matriarch... I get a bit frustrated that each oscillator voice is subject to the same amplitube envelope and was wondering there is a module that could take the outputs of each oscillator and make an individual ADSR for each. I've also wondered if this would even work - wouldn't each note event send another gate that would reset the trigger for each envelope? So... would there be a way to recognize each note event as being exclusive to a voice and then set the envelope to be specific to that voice. All of this because I just want long padded out voices for each key that I play that don't have to conform to the initial envelope triggered. (maybe I'm thinking about this the wrong way entirely?)

My pleasure! It's most likely you won't break anything you just won't reach maximum range then the modules talk to each other. You can use a module that has an offset (like maths) to "translate" from one to the other. Thanks for your ongoing support BTW!

Thank you for the entertaining and instructional videos! I am just starting to dig into modular and I bought a Matriarch at the beginning of the pandemic. I am looking to build onto it but am Having trouble finding answers to a couple questions. The big one being the different voltage control scales for different modules and how to get them to work together. I see you have a couple different brands there. Moog is -5 - 5, befaco is 0 - 10, etc. Do these voltage scales have different uses? Are they interchangeable? I don't want to break anything.
