SoftPop 2 // a refreshingly original synth + exclusive extended jam downloads

Hi!

A few years ago, I took SoftPop (and Loopsynth) as travel companions to Knobcon, and indeed great travel companions they were: small and portable, and yet original enough to keep me busy for a while.

SoftPop 2 extends the riddle wrapped in an enigma that was the original SoftPop in many ways but stays true to its quirky roots.

Bastl and Casper have taken the "think differently" mantra and applied it to multiple aspects of this synth, with some ingenious internal patching and cross mods that take it, without any patching, from an upgraded "Krell" style patch to "regular" synth, and then lets you take it even further with an extensive patch bay.

For those interested, attached to this post are extended versions of the intro and outro jams in the video.

Many of the patch ideas in this video are applicable to other modular adventures - any new ideas inspired by this synth will be added to the next book update of course!

Ziv (deciphering cross-mod puzzles on youtube as "Loopop"...)

PS I got a request to add a description of the "forest patch" that appears towards the end of my video - I've attached an overhead picture for slider positions and patch connections. The main idea is:

1. Set the oscillator to a low rate

2. Same goes for the looping envelope (turn cycle on) - every cycle will modify the rate of the OSC acting as LFO due to the internal cross patch, and because the OSC mod depth isn't set to zero.

3. Patch OSC Pulse output to transpose - to mess with the oscillator just a bit more

4. Patch OSC Tri to the mult and send that to mess with a bunch of other parameters (accent and reverse).

Thanks, Ziv! That made my whole year lol

That's beautiful! It's way more than OK :)

Thanks for posting the forest patch for me! I had requested on YouTube and you were right on it. I tried my hand at a nature soundscape using that patch, 2 stregas, a 0-coast, and a MOD DuoX for effects and clock. Hope that its okay with you. https://youtu.be/qJEmwMAiCog

Awesome, thanks for the response. I definitely enjoyed both of the videos you're referencing, but being relatively new to synthesis in general I'm still wrapping my head around the art of the possible. The way you've summed them both up here helps a lot!

If you watch my videos on both you'll know what I know... this is crazier for sure, but 0-Coast has a ton of soul and power

How would you rate this up against the Make Noise 0-Coast as a first step into semi-modular? I'm very intrigued by both machines, but even after a bit of research I'm finding it hard to decide between the two.
