MPC STUDIO MK2 Review // vs Maschine Mikro MK3

Hi!

No, this isn't the post-Superbooth post yet - what started with a small idea grew into something that will take a little more time to bring to life - watch this space...

Plus this got in the away: it's hard to say no to launch day videos :)

Akai has something new: MPC STUDIO MK2 is clearly aimed to give Native Instruments a run for their Maschine Mikro MK3 money.

While both Akai and NI now make standalone production boxes, both companies have software versions of their products. Both software versions aren't aimed to compete head to head with DAWs (at least not directly), but rather to be a simplified beat making environment (or mega grooveboxes) that work with a controllers, whether its their standalone boxes in "controller mode", or in the form of dedicated controllers that can't do much without the companion software running on a computer. Such has been the case with Maschine MK3, Maschine Mikro MK3 and previously, MPC Studio MK1 and MPC Touch.

This video takes a look at the new MPC Studio MK2, compares it with the Maschine Mikro MK3, and is a good opportunity to re-examine the controller/software combo music production environment.

Happy to answer any questions about it!

OK back to working on the Superbooth project...

All my best,

Ziv (still occasionally making vs videos on youtube as "Loopop"...)

Super Helpful!! Thanks!!!

I have Maschine (MKI, but still) and I used to have an MPC Live that I sold last year. MPC software is extremely clunky compared to Maschine in my opinion - and I had an MPC2000 back in the day. Paradoxically, Maschine ie much closer to the original MPCs than the MPC Live / One / Studio. Again, that's an opinion and you may feel differently!
