Hi!
I've taken a look at quite a few instruments that let you write apps, scripts or create patches. Some companies, like Empress with ZOIA and Critter & Guitari with Organelle, have nurtured an active community contributing patches to the platform, but I've not seen anything that compares with the amount of effort, creativity, and quality of the contributions by the Norns community.
In this video, I explore the pros, cons, and hopefully soul of Monome Norns, Grid and Arc...
While much of the hardware sold by Monome is rather expensive (if you want to know where your Patron contributions went - there's a lot of cash spent in this video...), the easy to assemble Norns Shield is actually quite affordable (relatively speaking for the value you get). If you're handy with a soldering iron, you can build one for even less.
While in no way is this a scripting tutorial, Lua is so easy to program I do show how to tinker with and customize scripts just a bit in this video.
Attached is the outro track to the video, for those interested.
All my best,
Ziv (exploring the soul of instruments in youtube as "Loopop"...)
