Hi!
This video came out quite long.... so don't say I didn't warn you!
Even though DeepMind has been out for a while, after a little play with it in a store I was quite intrigued and decided to give it a closer look.
Little did I know they weren't kidding when they called it DeepMind. Though the analog synth engine is quite simple with few frills, the little bells and whistles surrounding it, as well as the massive built-in effects engine and options, make DeepMind a very interesting synth.
This video has three main parts: a tutorial section, which is as I prefer to do things, very beginner-friendly, then a "tips and tricks" or hidden gems part (which there were quite a few of), and finally a pros and cons section.
More synths should have built-in effects: tying specific effects settings to a preset makes them part of a whole rather than an afterthought - not to mention having effect parameters as modulation destinations of course!
If you're new to synths, I think going through the tutorial section might be useful for you even if you're not into DeepMind. If you've been around the block a few times, perhaps you'll find the "hidden gems" part interesting as there are a few new ideas there (I'll be adding them to the book of course!)
All my best,
Ziv (hunting for little synth gems on youtube as "Loopop"...)
