Deluge 3: Full tutorial and workflow walkthrough

Hi!

Synthstrom just released Deluge firmware version 3.0, with so many material changes to what Deluge can do that this little groovebox is transformed once again.

I don't think I've ever seen electronic music hardware with such post sales support and updates, and "hints" on the panel show even more promising features are yet to come.

This small company from New Zealand is giving much bigger players a serious run for their money.

Unlimited sample length? Check. As many arpeggiators and sequencers as you want at any length you like? Check. Built in rechargeable battery? Multisampling? Time Stretching - they have that too. Ableton Live like session view and Arranger (mean a REAL arranger when you can put anything anywhere you want, not just sequence scene changes)? It's got that too.

And everything just "fits together" in a workflow that makes sense.

Sure, it has its flaws. The 4 digit screen isn't one of them BTW, though I wish the digits would have more than 7 segments. To make the most of it, you've got to memorize a lot of shift and other two button combos, and there's a pretty heavy reliance on color, which, if you're like me (slightly red green color blind) - can be a problem in certain areas. The internal synth engine isn't as strong as other current digital offerings. But all that said, for fast musicmaking on the go, Deluge is a real contender.

Since so much has changed in the past two years, I didn't think it would make sense to make a video just about what's new - so here's every major feature, new and old, covered in about 40 minutes or so.

All my best,

Ziv (if you click you'll hear me singing poorly on youtube as "Loopop"...)

Hi Dan, I answered your question on the 707 video...

Hi Ziv, would love to see a Loopop MC-707 vs Deluge v3.0 bake-off. Both are quite different but are both Groove boxes are about the same cost budget. In particular, would like to understand the differences between Clip Modes/Tracks (Roland) vs. Clips/Arranger/Song Mode (Deluge). Comparing the Synth Engines, Sample capabilities, Song development workflows vs Live Performance workflows. Expandability (memory, flash), Scaleability (cpu performance), ease of use. Pros and Cons: somewhat like the Push vs. Machine Mk3 review. Gratefully.

Yes you can!

Can you change the track type after you compose a sequence on that track? For example, you create a note sequence for a bass line using the internal synth, and then later you want to use an external synth to play that sequence instead of the internal synth?
