Hi!
When I first heard of Mimeophon I thought it was just a stereo delay and reverb, but after I got to know it, that's far from what makes it special. Mimeophon has two super interesting features - one quite rare and another the likes of which I've never seen:
1. It's a playable stereo "dual oscillator" feedback based mini-synth: many delays will let you create Karplus-Strong style sounds, but Mimeophon tracks well across a 3-octave range, and with transposition can play a broader range. Its skew feature lets you create what are essentially two oscillators with its dual delay lines - playing an interval you determine. The intro/outro and the "synth/time travel" part of the video are played using these haunting, lovely sounds.
2. Mimeophon's Zones feature lets you play in the shorter zones (=delay times) and then "zoom out", play and skim across events in the past - this feature is extremely unique to my knowledge - it's sort of like what happens when you combine a delay, looper and granular synth... more in the video of course.
Aside from that, Native Instruments has invited 14 other creators and me to their headquarters in Berlin for an event which is a mix of both meeting each other as well as the in-house team at NI.
Full disclosure - they're only paying for travel and accommodations - so for me, I kind of like my house and studio and have been to Berlin quite a few times... so what makes me really interested in this is meeting other creators in very different genres than myself, as well as getting insight into NI's products and process.
I'm not sure what kind of content I'll create if any - as you know I like to spend time and dig deep into products - and staying in my room doing that isn't the plan, we'll see what happens.
However, if you have any questions for Native Instruments, I'll be happy to try and track down the person responsible for getting the answers! I've said it before, if you don't mind a computer nearby, Maschine MK3 is the best sampler/groovebox experience out there: its sampling workflow is a breeze, and the way it gives you immediate access to NI's Komplete Ultimate library of sounds, makes exploring such an immense library fun rather than a chore.
So... if you have anything you'd like to know - I'll be happy to try and get you answers!
All my best,
Ziv (traveling in time and to Berlin on YouTube as "Loopop")
