Hi!
On the knobs vs faders argument I'm a pro-fader guy, because you can control more than one parameter with a single hand (though I'm a sucker for a big cutoff knob...). I've always been curious about whether motorized faders are a performance/production workflow improvement or just a gimmick. Spoiler alert - I think it makes a DAW feel much more like an instrument.
In this video I explore the particular integration of Presonus's FaderPort 8 and Ableton Live, as well as the workflows of the various functions the faders and other buttons have.
I end the video with a 4-minute "fader jam" which I think came out quite nicely! I've attached the track as an mp3 download to this post in case you want to take a listen.
The instruments I use in it are Piano V2 and CMI from Arturia's Analog Lab and the new Straylight from Native Instruments, which is a really interesting software synth they just came out with.
I've also been spending the last few days working on the May update to the book - it's quite a big one yet again with a sampler and sequencer buyer's guide. Coming soon!
All my best,
Ziv (pushing faders on YouTube as "Loopop"....)
