20 ways to use Morphagene + Patreon download

Hi!

Somewhat like Maths, Morphagene from Make Noise has a pretty basic feature set, but what you can do with it goes quite deep. This video took way longer to make than I expected because every time I thought I figured Morphagene out, something new was waiting to be discovered right around the corner. It got quite better after the v155 firmware update last year.

In the video I cover the basics, but also a few non-obvious tricks, like creating a playable polyphonic chord bank or using it as a drum machine.

Another cool trick I discovered was that its gene morphing algorithm, while it seems to be designed for short "gene" like samples, lends itself quite well to "phased looping" style music with longer, melodic samples - as per my video from a couple of weeks ago, but with a nice twist due to its semi-random transposition capabilities.

I played around with that idea in the "outro jam" to this video, and also attached a download of the two minute "phased piano" piece played there.

Enjoy!

All my best,

Ziv (freezing chords and phasing genes on YouTube as "Loopop"...)

Hey Jeff, thanks for joining - I really appreciate it! I'm not aware of any firmware that gets around this, but I'm colorblind too - red/green though - are you like that as well? If so, I didn't find Morphagene's colors to limit me too much. If you're like me then red/green/amber leds on most pedals and modules are a complete mystery. I used to have an RC-50 looper and sold it because I could never tell if it was recording or playing back. However, Morphagene's colors skip from blue to green to purple on the main R/F control, and similarly colors that are sufficiently different on the Splice or Reel. I can't tell you exactly if they're peach or purple, but they're different enough to see that they change. The only problem I have is with the colors on the R/F portion when you move the Morph knob, but there too, I can tell by the brightness that something is changing. So... is it ideal? no. But being R/G colorblind, at least like I am, doesn't detract from being able to use this particular module.

I just recently joined you Patreon. So much great content, thanks so much for all you do! A question about Morphagene. It seems that many (if not most) of the functions are color coded.......I am color blind. Do you know if there is a firmware that gets around this, pehaps just with brightness of led's opposed to color? Thanks, Jeff
