Time to split: 4 ways to get more out of Stackcables from Tiptop Audio

Good Friday!

A video about a cable?

I recently uploaded a video where I used both ends of a Stackcable (split cables made by Tiptop Audio) as a three way splitter, and I got a few comments from people who didn’t know that was possible, so I thought make a dedicated clip about it, and some other uses for split cables.

Patch cables are a basic building block for people playing semi-modular or eurorack synths, and this little cable can make patching life a lot easier...

While I'm at it, this video explores a couple more things that can be done with Stackcables, as well as buffered vs passive mults.

In a nutshell, a Stackable is a passive splitter, or mult cable, with jack inputs on either end. Passive splitters can be used to take one audio or modulation source and send it to multiple destinations. They can also be used to distribute pitch 1v/oct CV, though you’re better off using an active/buffered mult module for that, as a passive split can hurt proper tracking.

…and while I had the camera rolling, might as well throw a couple of extra tips/tricks in… including how to use a Stackable and mixer to drive and distort a signal, as well as implement the classic “feedback into filter” trick.

Happy patching!

Simon, thanks so much for taking the time to write. With growing support from people like you, the day I stop posting becomes more and more unlikely ;)

Sir, you continue to expand my ability to create by sharing what I believe are exceptionally useful tips and techniques, to be honest I really don’t like modular but have a semi modular section in my studio made up of around half a dozen pieces based around the mother eco system and what you just then demonstrated has actually opened up a huge amount of intergration ideas as it does do my head in sometimes. I dread the day you stop posting as I find you content and delivery of the information easily absorbed. You the man! Cheers.

yes, it's really great!

Wow. I was thinking I was going to have to buy something but I already have Plateau and it's free anyway I think. I think I'll be spending some time getting to know it better over the weekend.
