Loopop Patreon Exclusive - Quadraphonic downloads

Hi!

I'm really excited about this one - as you may have seen, a few weeks ago I interviewed Suzanne Ciani about her experience creating quadraphonic music using her Buchla system.

As I write this, I'm putting the finishing touches on the follow up "mega-tutorial" video, which includes quadraphonic techniques for four different (and slightly less expensive....) setups: DAWs, Eurorack, VCV Rack and Dawless.

I try to avoid outrageous claims but you really MUST try at least one of these, you simply won't know what you're missing until you do. The experience of sitting in the middle of music you create while your sounds rotate around you is like none other. I'm hooked.

Anyway, more on those techniques tomorrow (and in the September update to my book, coming in a week or so), but the problem with that video will be, as YouTube videos currently are, is that it will be in stereo.

To solve that problem, attached to this message as a Patreon exclusive are quadraphonic versions of three of the short pieces performed in the video in the Euroack, VCV and DAWless segments.

Here's how to listen to these files in quad:

1. Each quadraphonic jam is comprised of three files: stereo front, stereo rear, and "mic" - me narrating what's going on, interfering with the music.

2. You'll need four speakers connected to your audio interface, which means you'll need an audio interface with four outputs. Unfortunately I've not figured any way around those physical requirements. To get going, I think it doesn't matter that the speakers aren't the same or that they're not precisely the same distance from you. It doesn't take great speakers to understand the potential of quad... then improve the setup later if you get hooked like me.

3. Open up your DAW (if you're using Ableton go to the arrangement view and turn warping OFF in the setting), and drag and drop each of the files into a stereo track.

4. Route the track labeled "Front" to the front stereo pair (say, for example, connected to outputs 1 and 2)

5. Route the track labeled "Rear" to the rear stereo pair (say, for example, outputs 3 and 4)

6. The "Mic" track is optional - it's just the audio of me explaining what's going on in the video. This is not a must, as it makes more sense in the context of the visuals on screen, I just put it there in case you want it.

That's it!

If this works well for you (or not?) - I'd love to hear your feedback. Have I wasted your time? Changed your life? I'm betting it's closer to the latter ;)

Please try this at home :)

Thanks for your support,

Ziv ("Loopop")
