The ladies talk about Martin Scorsese's latest for Harper's, the jokerfied Cruella trailer, and Kendall Jenner's Skims shoot body fallout.

haven't heard of this one

I wonder if the girls have ever watched Tinto Brass. That would be a really interesting topic. Or even on the life of Claudia Koll. This is not a request at all.

Clarky

Isn’t it frightening how far apart peoples conceptions of reality are? I’m happy for you though.

happy birthday dasha!! 🥳

Found Red Scare through Anna’s appearance on Tim Dillon and have been listening to old episodes all day ever since. Thank you for confirming my suspicions that progressives are being gaslit by the establishment left, thought I was going nuts this past election cycle.

it's an abomination, begins with a title card detailing the closure and dissolution of a company town in the SW so you think it's about economic hardship, ends with a bud light commercial title card "here's to the one's that choose to roam", she literally works at an Amazon warehouse, shot in an Amazon warehouse

connor

I can’t wait to see your movie Dasha. Will you ladies be watching Allen vs Farrow? I can’t decide if the bias evident just in the trailer deems it ironically watchable or totally intolerable

nicocat

I’m Australian and Facebook has banned all news content 😂😂 It’s actually pretty great

Kendall is not Armenian. Robert Kardashian was not her dad, or Kylie’s.

U guys should try and get Hamilton Morris on

LOL at Dasha saying Kate Moss was a “dirt farmer” She was discovered at JFK Airport coming back from a holiday in the Bahamas 👩🏼‍🌾

Love this episode! What I would give to hear you unpack Chloe Zhao’s new film NOMADLAND. The film world is flipping out about it, but to me it was one of the most disappointing, overwrought, and pretentious films I’ve seen in years. Disappointing because I loved her film THE RIDER. Critics have lost their damn minds.

I saw Wonder Woman it was trash I wrote a better version in a hour after watching it

Anna if your dream of being a surgeon doesn't work out you can always be an e-expert like Lorry https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xMiBamExjRQ

Emma Stone probably made a lot of money and that's all that matter 😌

Mateo Sánchez Fitzgerald

“A victim of its audience” sums it up perfectly.

MYK’L ROCKS

We're surely due another episode with Angela right? Or have you fallen out with her?

Damn, Alice Gregory. There's a good role model for leaving social media to be productive

Ugh so jealous of your new coat, hbd dasha you fellow pisce

As a film school graduate (ultimately unemployable) I would argue the most underrated Scorsese films are AFTER HOURS and NEW YORK, NEW YORK.

Richard Luna

Happy to hear you’re allowed back in Sephora, Dasha. HBD.

The US government got deeply involved in culture, especially in the 1930s and ‘40s, and then with the CIA-funded Congress for Cultural Freedom, which promoted the avant garde attitude in everything. David Alfaro Siqueiros said they were promoting “ghost art” to destroy public consciousness. With the destruction of all standards, the world was opened for the free play of power. -Ray Peat, a man

A problem is if you don't live in, like, NYC (or do, but haven't gone near the rep theatres in decades) the special presentation of cinema is lost due to flattening, relativizing, cheaper technologies and corporate interests. For lots of people just having a place to watch non-shit films as a *theatrical presentation* is a luxury. Festivals are expensive. Disney doesn't seem to care whether they make theatrical presentations or cultural events, it's all the same (Avengers, WandaVision: same thing). And anyway the only events are their Marvel movies or ones with the telling-your-story function. Like a decade ago Scorsese was arguing for film vs digital, now that battle is lost and he's literally trying to distinguish cinema from things it is not-- movies stretched too thin over eight hours to create prestige TV, cultural touchstones that don't provide immersive experiences because they're made for small-screen with one eye on Twitter emotions. If I'd been around to see the presentation of cinema start out as the realistic horse drawing and end up as the cartoon, I'd be anguished by the new horse too

Would love to hear more about your writing and directing process!

jesus, so many good laughs in this one. I think the bigger threat with platforms and streaming services is the ownership issue. You can't really "own" film, music, or books in the new digital only world. That album you loved may be "remastered" at some point, or the platform could collapse. That movie you used to watch every year could be "corrected" for modern standards. Not to mention that if there isn't enough "market interest" no platform may actually have that film available. Books may not be much of problem due to the massive existing physical books that have too much cache culturally to vanish. I for one am building a bit of an Ark for my favorite stuff, because I know the world is making less and less content with me in mind. Which as Marty should have figured out by now, it normal and totally fine. I am just being proactive. :D
