2022-08-11 06:19:31 +0000 UTCIt's disappointing listening to Jones recognize the real problem of vast power concentrated into the hands of a few people; only to hold water for the American political right. As far as I can tell the economic prescriptions of the American right have stayed almost entirely the same, despite attaching the populist label to themselves. I'm unable to make the logical leap from "some wealthy people can afford too much control over other people" to the right wing economic panacea of night watchman government characterized by low taxes and deregulation. To me, if there's a imbalance of power between people, the logical solution is to reduce inequality. So I don't understand why Jones and likeminded folks on the right, who are so concerned about abuse of power by global elites, aren't economic leftists, proselytizing economic policy that actively reduces material inequality. Unless they don't see an underlying problem with the global economic order, and only think it's the "wrong people" concentrating power, such that we just need to switch back to the "right people" concentrating power again.
