Just because Dasha and Anna are sympathetic to the west’s involvement and provocations in Ukraine obviously doesn’t mean they are pro-Putin or cool with war. However, at the same time Simon is not dumb for pointing out Russia’s involvement, and importantly Ukraine’s own agency. Americans love to think other countries don’t have control over their actions. That being said, Putin invading Ukraine is an insane move that I think we should all be able to condemn. And that doesn’t mean we should go to war either. Situation is messed up. The alliance between Russia and China is real as well and people need to see this isn’t just isolated from the world stage.

USSR/Russia has been a long-term, consistent ally of India, supporting the country at a time when US and other Western nations acted against its interests. It did not make sense to alienate a historical ally for an absolute flaky one like the USA, especially in a voting scenario that was frankly inconsequential. Meanwhile, had India voted against Russia, it would have had to face increasing hostility in the form of Pak-Russia and China-Russia alliances in the region. Nevertheless, India has been extremely critical of Russia’s actions in all its statements. All of which can be found by doing a simple Google search. Blanket statements do not do justice to nuanced issues.

Back in 2014 I brought up the Budapest Memorandum to mostly deaf ears and I’m surprised it wasn’t discussed considering everything they covered. The Budapest memorandum which when I was a teenager was a big deal, if you didn’t grow up with the constant threat of nuclear war breaking out I get that this may not resonate too.
