Ehhhhhh I really think Cameo's not that bad. It wouldn't even be in my top ten examples of parasocial relationships and "the new fame" ruining American life. Like you guys quoted/said, "the transactional nature is out in the open" and it's strictly a novelty*. The interchangeable personal details slebs spew out for free on IG and Twitter to be liked, and hireable, are way more self-helpy and intelligence-insulting. A Cameo is like thirty seconds, it's VideoPhone awkward and not slick, you don't have to read any freakshow comments, and the buyer can set it to private. Even though the celeb Mad Libs your name and some details I don't think it's as psychotic a form of intimacy or proximateness as, like, The Rock shouting into his phone that he's about to take us all on a VR motivational tour of his new garage or whatever. Cameo has a buyer and a seller and no pretense of a conversation/one big social class. (Makes me have more respect for the people who strictly accomplish great things to be widely liked. Because they're patient, and presumably they're just texting their friends all their "content"... because communication should be about siring the response of people you respect, not sticking your dick out a window... Your slebs with gravity and mystique are these people.) *A novelty i.e. if your inspiration or role model is on Cameo you are hopeless. (Kidding. The detail Fry included about Lisa Loeb singing in honor of the librarian's grandma was beautiful.)

About the cameo point, totally agree about celebrities. A friend's took me to one of those comic con type thing. They have these things where people pay like $20-50 to like take a picture with or get an autograph from a celeb. It really made me sad. Like, let me get this straight; it only costs $20 for a celeb to get into contact with the unwashed?! Hell $20 wouldn't get me to talk to anyone I didn't want to, and I am several orders of magnitude less interesting than most of these people. The WORST part was that the money was exchanged right there in front of the talent. I mean people gotta eat or whatever, but man, a hard no from me. Though I did run into Sgt slaughter out in the general population area, which was interesting.
