The whole point of the kabuki theatre of Russia Gate is to provide moral absolution to Republicans for allowing Trump to get nominated and then elected, i.e., comically hijack the entire Republican party, while simultaneously providing moral absolution to the Democrats for losing the most winnable election in history, while simultaneously providing the general public the moral consolation that Trump and his administration are aberrant rather than symptomatic of our democracy flailing and dying. - wanted to kind of edit and write this out because it's probably the most concise way I've heard this expressed and I actually want to retain it.
