Panty & Stocking Process Shots

So much to say about the process behind this...Well, first thing I started with was the background! I got a couple of reference's of the living area that the characters lived and tried to draw something inspired by that.

This time instead of drawing floorboards myself I just searched up textures and then edited it with Photoshop filters! I think if I spent time actually drawing it I definitely would not have had time to do the other things that were important to me. So I don't really think of it as cutting corners exactly but making better use of my time!

A critique I think I give myself quite often is I need to start off the skin colours with better base shades. Because for most of the duration of this work the skin tone felt off, and for Stocking it still feels like it's not complete, there's a lot missing I think... So for next time maybe I'll grab a reference pic for the type of skin I am going for and select my base shade like that.

This piece I explored a lot of the new brushes I have been collecting from various artists, it's quite fun going through the list and imagining what kind of effects or things I can create using them. Even if you have specific brushes like buildings you can still use them and adjust them for various things! It has really changed my world although I used to hate textured brushes.

My favourite parts of this piece would be Stocking's sock and her hair! I think the shine on her hair is so pretty! The sock on Stocking is one of my favourite parts because rendering it was quite fun and I think it's one of the first time's I've painted thinking about shadow and form in a more particular and detailed way. The shadow and lighting here was something I don't think I've ever really done before but I think the rim lighting and ambient shadowing really makes this look like a realistic form!

The anatomy of Stocking in particular I struggled with all week until I had a look in the mirror and realised what I had been doing wrong this entire time. You can see with these pictures that the perspective of her stomach wasn't making much sense, it was missing her belly button, and while rounded looked very flat. I solved this by adding some light where her belly button would divet and changing the linework slightly (you can notice this in the final pieces posted yesterday!)

Anyway I think that's quite enough for today and you can see the entire process in tomorrow's speedpaint!

Thank you!
