Weapon (shortbow), uncommon
This shortbow is crafted from polished ash and sinew, reinforced with a second set of hornlike limbs that curve forward, their sharpened ends capable of serving as piercing weapons. Between the paired limbs hang two small brass bells that strike together with each draw, releasing a clear, resonant chime that ripples across the battlefield. Among the Karukut—beastfolk with the upper bodies of humans and the lower bodies of rabbits—this weapon is known as Wina Tinga, or “Voice of Warning,” a traditional bow used by their people for generations.
Unlike the silent hunting bows favored by most, the Tolling Talon was built to make noise. Forged as a tool of defense rather than the hunt, its ringing tone was designed to shatter the enthralling songs of harpies and disorient predators such as dire wolves, giant eagles, and griffons. When ranks of Karukut archers unleash their arrows in unison, the sound rises into a storm of bronze chimes—a defiant hymn that sweeps across the plains. Its piercing resonance overwhelms creatures with keen hearing, the vibrations so painful and disorienting that most are driven to flee before the arrows even find their mark.

You can use the Tolling Talon as both a shortbow and a spear. You are proficient with it if you are proficient with either weapon type.
Chime of Clarity. Once on each of your turns, when you make a ranged attack with this bow and release an arrow, each creature within 30 feet that can hear the bell can immediately repeat one saving throw against the charmed or frightened condition, ending the effect on a success.
Dissonant Ring. When you take the Attack action, you can replace one of your attacks with a powerful shot from this bow, drawing it to its breaking limit. Make a ranged attack with the bow. On a hit, the attack deals extra damage equal to your proficiency bonus.
After the attack (hit or miss), each creature within 60 feet that can hear the bell and either uses echolocation, has Keen Hearing, is proficient in the Perception skill, or has a passive Perception of 15 or higher must make a DC 14 Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, the creature is deafened and has disadvantage on its next attack roll before the end of its next turn. You and allies who have previously heard you use this weapon have advantage on this saving throw.
After using this feature, roll a d20. On a 1, the bow’s limbs crack under the strain. Each subsequent use without repair increases the break threshold by 2. While broken, the bow can’t be used to make ranged attacks until repaired during a short or long rest with a successful DC 15 Dexterity (Woodcarver’s Tools) check.
Optional Feature – Removable Bells. As an action, you can remove the brass bells from the bow. While the bells are removed, you can’t use the Chime of Clarity or Dissonant Ring features until the bells are reattached. Reattaching the bells requires 1 minute of work and a successful DC 10 Dexterity (Tinker’s Tools or Woodcarver’s Tools) check.
