Meet Spiff

While waiting for your test with Remington, Spiff keeps you company in the courtyard where he's going through his daily training exercises. As you learn about his anti-magic abilities and his exceptional martial skill, you can't help but back away from his razor sharp claws. Dangerous as he may be, he seems friendly enough.
For an assassin, as you can't help but make analogy to, his apparel seems off. What are those robes he's wearing? Why would he wear glasses? Seems counterintuitive to hand-to-hand combat training. Also, why isn't Spiff training at some other academy where his abilities could be put to better use? Curiosity may get you killed with this one.
