Back in the early 2000's I started making dumb videos for my website. In order to keep the file sizes to a minimum, the resolution of these things were like 320x240. To give you an idea of what videos look like today, a typical television/monitor resolution is 3840 x 2160. What I'm basically trying to say is: my old videos are the size of a postage stamp and look like ass when all blown up on today's screens.
The videos didn't look that great to begin with. They were shot on crappy cameras, had a lot of graininess, etc etc.
I've tried to blow up the size of the videos in the past, but upscaling such a shitty quality video just makes a larger, equally shitty video.
I recently found an application that uses artificial intelligence to upscale videos. It tries to figure out what exactly is in the video and intelligently uses algorithms and deep learning and umm..stuff to.. I dont really know all the magic it does to make the video look nicer, but it works! Kind of.
Take a look at the video above. It's my shitty little film in HD! Below are pictures from the original 320x240 video. Check out all the grain and how blurry it looks. The video above is much better, but it's not without issues.
It messes up upscaling my face in some of the shots. But to be honest, I'm kind of weird looking anyway. My face probably just confused the AI nanobots that were crawling around and digitally fixing up the video.
I'll post more old videos that have been fixed up and modernized for you guys if they come out OK.
