The abomination above is the first comedy video I ever made as an adult. Actually, that's not entirely true, as it gets worse: this is the DVD-style commentary we made of the first comedy video I ever made. We really thought highly of ourselves, I guess.
A little bit of history: before I started the podcast I was already a failed netcaster. The Real-Talk Network, Distorted View's previous home, had went bust in 2000. After that I did a short version of my show (which is what the podcast grew from) on a 1-800 telephone service. Somewhere during that time frame I thought it would be fun to make videos. Before I even had a decent digital camera, I started experimenting with my video editing software. That is where Interior Motives sprang from.
While I have a lot of my old video floating around, I thought this one was lost. Erased or chewed up by an old hard drive. Today I found a DVD I had apparently made, and behold: there my first attempt at video humor! And boy does it NOT hold up.
Curiously, when I attempted to rip the video from the DVD, handbrake noticed there were two audio tracks. Yes, Joey and I recorded DVD commentary. I'm not sure why, but I'm guessing that at the time I was a huge fan of watching movies and TV shows with the commentary tracks on, and I felt people watching MY videos needed to know MY motivation and the backstory behind such a masterpiece. It's ridiculous.
I have no idea why on earth we thought this deserved a DVD style commentary track, but 17+ years after I made this dumb video, it's great to hear how much fun Joe and I seemed to have making it.
I've also uploaded the original version so you can see AND hear this amazing tale of one man's journey to get his house redesigned. I think that was the premise.
