Episode 125: An Age Forlorn

After his victory at Wagram, Napoleon pursued the Austrians. Peace was in the air, but the war would end on an almost unbelievably dramatic note, in the middle of a Bohemian thunderstorm.

I took a road trip through Tyrol in 2019. It’s one of the most beautiful areas I’ve seen in this world but i can’t help but wonder how many of these tiny mountain passes that i drove through were the choke points for Tyrolian resistance. Amazing episode. Thank you

If you look at a picture, there's these side things that go below that look like they sort of clasp your chin? https://www.armorvenue.com/french-napoleonic-shako-helmet.html was the first clear picture I found, though that's obviously a replica.

Question: This might seem like a petty concern to the grand strategists, but whenever I read about Napoleonic warfare—especially cavalry—I can't help but wonder: how did they keep their hats on in the wind? A river runs behind my house, and the breeze off it has stolen more than one hat from me (and occasionally gifted me stranger things in return). I don’t wear a chin strap—maybe I should. But it made me curious: have you ever come across anything about lost shakos being a recurring headache for quartermasters?

I’m caught up to your latest episode and thanks. I’m enjoying it tremendously. I want to go back and understand the events of the French Revolution. I was able to find the episodes just before and thru just after the storming of the bastille on the regular podcast platform not on Patreon. The episodes on the Great Terror, Robespierre, and such are not evident. Are they available and can you tell me where to find them?
