2025-11-14 00:21:19 +0000 UTCOne of my favourite little things that happens in this episode is that when the Doctor finds out who River Song is, he goes back to the Tardis, pops his head out, points at her and laughs. WAY back in The Silence in the Library, the first time the Doctor meets River she tells him she's an archeologist and he says "I point and laugh at archeologists" The other wonderful part is when Rory appears at the start, Alex Kingston lights up like a little girl and says "It's my Birthday!" before realising Rory doesn't know who she is yet....she thinks that her dad has come to visit her on her birthday. The other little easter egg is that in "The Doctor's Wife" Idris, the TARDIS, says "The only water in the forest is the river" as one of the phrases that seems to be nonsense but are actually just because she exists out of time and accidentally said something from the future - as the TARDIS is there watching when River tells Amy that the only water in the forest is the River. Another thing a lot of people people miss here is that this confirms that River and the Doctor do not encounter each other in exactly reverse order. It's not like each time River sees the Doctor it's always later for her and earlier for him. I think it's really a spoilter to say that this isn't River's last episode - but at this point in the Doctor's timeline he's met her at the start of her life as a baby and at the end of her life on the day she dies in the library. It's just it generally trends earlier for her and later for him - that's why they have to synch up diaries when they meet.

THIS was the episode reaction I was looking forward this whole time and it was worth the wait. For me, this is the peak of Doctor Who, my most rewatched and my favourite episode and to this day, I cry every single time when I watch it. (Now that you know who River is, please, go back and see that reveal scene with Doctor once again, the brilliance of Matt's performance can really be appreciated once you know what's happening)
