Terrain Explained in Warhammer 40K

Let's talk terrain and obscuring ruins in 10th edition...

Comments

This video will be available at a later date it is just available for Patreons earlier than YT subs. I also was looking at the terrain up for pre order next Saturday. I don't believe any terrain have any rules other than the fortifications that some armies have, For example, the Droneport that Tau have or the Tidewall Gunrig that is made to order currently.

So again, they're going to be re-releasing a stack of terrain: https://www.warhammer-community.com/2024/05/19/sunday-preview-the-dawnbringers-saga-ends-under-a-cloud-of-chaos/ - I'm thinking about the Void Shield Generator...but are there any current rules for it? A quick scan brings up a discussion from 2016 when terrain had HP, etc. Why isn't there a rolling document for 10th edition narrative play and special terrain rules - I did recently order the Sacristan ForgeShrine on ebay too. The concept of special defended terrain is great, but having no official documentation for it - like the "unmanned" bolter on the munitorum container (also available again) - is pretty disappointing.

Another big question is in a tournament terrain layout where there's a large rectangle footprint, it's the whole thing obscuring? Or only the physical parts of the terrain piece?

good vid. I don't normally watch anything on patreon though - will this be on youtube in the future - or is there a way to d/l it later? I've been collecting a lot of classic terrain off ebay lately. Looking at the classic sets vs what they use for the "tournament" laydowns - it seems like most of what I want to play with is more towards narrative play - although after picking up the 8th edition "Cities of Ruin" (title I think?) box - I really like the idea of a narrative series through a hive or something similar and I've got nearly enough pieces to support something like that between the 9th and 10th edition command sets and other bonus terrain. I even picked up a Munitorum container that still includes a bolter attached to the top - it seems weird that these special terrain items aren't addressed in the core rules at all - same for the other special faction terrain (that knight docking station, etc). I really find it hilarious that the one set of trees/"forest" that makes it into all the 40k pics is only a set of actual units/terrain from AoS (I bought one). I do appreciate the White Dwarf tactics specials the last few months that hit a lot of these visibility issues too - similar to the one in the rules commentary.

I always struggle understanding terrain as ork melee. I've been downplaying myself thinking i don't have cover when in fact I do. Thanks for the video!

I've just got some proper terrain and have taken it to the club. It's made it so much better. We have an issue with turn one, all your army is dead, sort of situation. It's made it so much better

I didn't even know I wanted this! Thank you!

This helped clear up 9th vs 10th vs killteam a lot for me thanks!

Love this. I appreciate all the videos you make but I do especially like when you make more tactical or rule explanation videos, which help me get better at the game... Or at least play it more correctly.

I wish GW would actually make more terrain. The sector imperialis stuff was cool

I miss seeing terrain that isn't L shaped ruins or T shaped ruins. I beg of my collegues to put other stuff on the table
