Combat Update: Now or Later?
Added 2024-10-24 22:54:52 +0000 UTCRight, so this is going to be both a poll and update on where my thoughts are for the game.
When I started the project it was just a lark to play around with the mechanics and make something I'd enjoy. It's become a bit more than that thanks to all of you. However, the code and systems I established to make the game work in the first place are now... horrendously under equipped for me to work with or add to. Thus in MY head I think the wise thing to do would be finish Chapter 1, and then upgrade the game to the newest version of RPGmaker for Chapter 2 and beyond.
I'd then have the players (you!) have a bit of an onboarding process for the second chapter, like how in mass effect questions were asked at the start of 2 to carry things over from the last title.
So we'd lose some of the continuity in certain quest lines BUT I'd have a chance to make a more robust baseline code AND we'd get higher resolution for images.
This being said, I come to the question I want you all to help me figure out:
Should I work on creating a more robust combat system NOW while we're in Chapter 1
OR
Should we delay working on the combat system and add it to Chapter 2 since I'm thinking about hopping over there anyways.

Wow, Guess I am in the minority then for wanting the combat system to be reworked from the ground up so the combat system can be in the game and no need to fiddle with it more. Though BarsFromMars brings up a fair point.

2024-10-27 02:20:38 +0000 UTCif you are reworking everything for chapter 2 anyways, i dont see much use in reworking it now. I feel like getting this chapter done and starting fresh on the new one would propably be energy better spend.

2024-10-26 10:05:27 +0000 UTCI’d go for whatever makes it more enjoyable for you to work on.

2024-10-25 05:08:58 +0000 UTCIf you're gonna rework a lot of things again by the end of chapter 1, might as well do it with the combat there

2024-10-25 05:04:55 +0000 UTCSo the combat system would be the same. I just feel like if people would want me to delay finishing chapter 1 to start working on the combat update NOW then I'd do it now. This me trying to respect people's time on how they want me to spend it.

2024-10-24 23:51:10 +0000 UTCI have to be honest in that the way you're wording these two options make it seem like you've more-or-less decided what you'd actually prefer to do. In that case, I suppose I don't understand why you're posing the question to us in the first place. What is worth doing with the combat update that will carry over into the new system? When you first asked about the implementation of the combat system, it was framed in a sort of "if it doesn't happen at that point, then it's not happening at all" way. Now it just seems like extra steps to appease us even though you're going to do what you want to do at some point with the new engine anyway. It just feels confusing and I don't fully grasp where everything stands, now. Don't know how else to express it.

2024-10-24 23:48:13 +0000 UTCI honestly don't see the point in adding a new combat system if everything is going to be thrown out for Chapter 2. It delays development of story for Chapter 1 for something that will no doubt be easier to make in Chapter 2 anyways.

2024-10-24 23:21:03 +0000 UTCGuess that means all the more reason to do it

2024-10-24 23:07:03 +0000 UTCWell there's gonna be a break in the game for chapter 2. We'd be moving over to a whole new engine anyways
Katar
2024-10-24 23:00:30 +0000 UTCwhy you should work on it now it's because the further you get along with the story the harder it will be To rework any sort of combat system.
