March Patreon Reward: Guess Again

Hello Patreons,

For our March monthly challenge (“Guess Again”) you are going to have to work out how to extract the answer, when you have solved the three puzzles linked in this post!  We are not providing pictures for printing because this month it is important that you solve the puzzles on the links provided. The answer required must be converted into a normal 4-letter English word (A=1 … Z=26), but to be eligible for the prize you must send both the relevant numeric string AND the word - send them by email to crackingthecryptic@gmail.com by 4pm GMT on the 20th of March. It’s easier than it sounds!

Arrows: https://test.crackingthecryptic.com/sudoku/G6QLM2RTrL

Normal sudoku rules apply. Digits along an arrow sum to the number in the circle.

Quenban: https://test.crackingthecryptic.com/sudoku/jjF24g7dJP

Normal sudoku rules apply. Digits in circles must appear in at least one of the surrounding four cells. Digits along a purple line must be a consecutive sequence, not necessarily in order.

Prodban: https://test.crackingthecryptic.com/sudoku/fhTGHBh72G

A clue outside the grid gives the product of the circled cells in that row/column. Digits along a purple line must be a consecutive sequence, not necessarily in order.

Thank you so much for supporting our channel, and good luck!

Simon & Mark

Has the solution been posted ?

Will a solution video ever be posted? I solved the Sudokus but couldn't figure out how to decode the numbers and turn them into words.

Jon Forsythe

hint please

Was too busy with work and other priorities to finish before the deadline but all three puzzles took me just under 75 minutes. Very nice set and a fun thing to work through when down with the flu!

No. Thanks. I'll wait for the solve video.

Scott Ab

Want a hint?

I've resigned myself to the fact that I'll never decipher the word. I'm sure I'll feel stupid when I see it.

Scott Ab

I finally solved it, altho' it took over 2 1/2 hours. The first task (which probably took at least 30 minutes) was to create a spreadsheet of the products with their possible 3-digit possibilities. Laborious checking and cross-checking, but it paid off. Wouldn't have been able to solve it otherwise. And I didn't have to keep reciting the multiplication tables in my head. (-;

I can only keep so much math in my head, so I kept another tab open with basic math computations like 144/9, etc. Whatever I needed for the row/column I was working on.

Not immediately, but after a while it became clear

If you ever played mastermind, it’s like a word version of that

What is wordle?

I think you have to treat the numbers like a wordle

Aprilise

I don't get how three strings of five numbers in three different colours gets to be a four letter word. I'm seriously confused

For future reference, you can just keep dividing the numbers down and listing the numbers you divided them by until you get a list of numbers that can't be divided further (for example, 60 -> 2*30 -> 2*2*15 -> 2*2*3*5) and then select numbers from that list (along with some freebie 1s) and multiply them together to get the three numbers for that row/column - so long as you use each of the numbers from the list once, you'll have a valid combination.

I feel like the Prodban is highly discriminatory to those of us that stink at math.

Scott Ab

There was a video on the channel about arrow puzzles just before the hunt came out. Simon gave some good clues as to how to approach arrow puzzles with lots of arrows.

Michael Fish

I actually wrote out the combinations…

Aprilise

I’ve gotten stuck on the arrow one not even sure where to start but I’m proud of myself for finishing the other two.

Aprilise

That was a blast. This was the first time I was able to do all the puzzles without looking for hints on Discord. Prodban was difficult for me. My multiplication-fu is not strong. I had to write a script to generate a list of the possible combinations.

There are more than 9 letters in the alphabet…. Does this help?

I've been watching your content for a while and joined patreon this month. Proud to say I've just managed to finish my first monthly challenge ever. What a fantastic puzzles and the wordle part which took me a while but eventually blow my mind with its simplicity and beauty. Great entertainment, keep up the great job :)

This was so much fun. I love it when there's another layer of puzzle running through the set like this. Especially when the puzzles use my favourite constraints and I can actually solve them! (at least, I think I can)

Totaly stuck with the word. Even after resolving 2 times, just to verify the solve is correct.
