March Patreon Reward: Guess Again
Added 2022-03-01 16:00:07 +0000 UTCHello Patreons,
For our March monthly challenge (“Guess Again”) you are going to have to work out how to extract the answer, when you have solved the three puzzles linked in this post! We are not providing pictures for printing because this month it is important that you solve the puzzles on the links provided. The answer required must be converted into a normal 4-letter English word (A=1 … Z=26), but to be eligible for the prize you must send both the relevant numeric string AND the word - send them by email to crackingthecryptic@gmail.com by 4pm GMT on the 20th of March. It’s easier than it sounds!
Arrows: https://test.crackingthecryptic.com/sudoku/G6QLM2RTrL
Normal sudoku rules apply. Digits along an arrow sum to the number in the circle.
Quenban: https://test.crackingthecryptic.com/sudoku/jjF24g7dJP
Normal sudoku rules apply. Digits in circles must appear in at least one of the surrounding four cells. Digits along a purple line must be a consecutive sequence, not necessarily in order.
Prodban: https://test.crackingthecryptic.com/sudoku/fhTGHBh72G
A clue outside the grid gives the product of the circled cells in that row/column. Digits along a purple line must be a consecutive sequence, not necessarily in order.
Thank you so much for supporting our channel, and good luck!

2022-04-09 15:46:37 +0000 UTCWill a solution video ever be posted? I solved the Sudokus but couldn't figure out how to decode the numbers and turn them into words.

2022-03-27 20:33:06 +0000 UTCWas too busy with work and other priorities to finish before the deadline but all three puzzles took me just under 75 minutes. Very nice set and a fun thing to work through when down with the flu!
2022-03-25 22:03:35 +0000 UTCNo. Thanks. I'll wait for the solve video.

2022-03-21 12:22:50 +0000 UTCWant a hint?
2022-03-21 02:42:09 +0000 UTCI've resigned myself to the fact that I'll never decipher the word. I'm sure I'll feel stupid when I see it.

2022-03-18 00:39:02 +0000 UTCI finally solved it, altho' it took over 2 1/2 hours. The first task (which probably took at least 30 minutes) was to create a spreadsheet of the products with their possible 3-digit possibilities. Laborious checking and cross-checking, but it paid off. Wouldn't have been able to solve it otherwise. And I didn't have to keep reciting the multiplication tables in my head. (-;
2022-03-13 22:51:36 +0000 UTCI can only keep so much math in my head, so I kept another tab open with basic math computations like 144/9, etc. Whatever I needed for the row/column I was working on.
2022-03-13 17:21:30 +0000 UTCNot immediately, but after a while it became clear
2022-03-13 16:05:05 +0000 UTCIf you ever played mastermind, it’s like a word version of that

2022-03-13 10:48:58 +0000 UTCWhat is wordle?
2022-03-12 22:46:45 +0000 UTCI think you have to treat the numbers like a wordle

2022-03-11 21:27:19 +0000 UTCI don't get how three strings of five numbers in three different colours gets to be a four letter word. I'm seriously confused
2022-03-11 16:00:14 +0000 UTCFor future reference, you can just keep dividing the numbers down and listing the numbers you divided them by until you get a list of numbers that can't be divided further (for example, 60 -> 2*30 -> 2*2*15 -> 2*2*3*5) and then select numbers from that list (along with some freebie 1s) and multiply them together to get the three numbers for that row/column - so long as you use each of the numbers from the list once, you'll have a valid combination.

2022-03-11 06:47:29 +0000 UTCI feel like the Prodban is highly discriminatory to those of us that stink at math.

2022-03-11 00:10:52 +0000 UTCThere was a video on the channel about arrow puzzles just before the hunt came out. Simon gave some good clues as to how to approach arrow puzzles with lots of arrows.

2022-03-09 08:24:59 +0000 UTCI actually wrote out the combinations…

2022-03-09 02:11:07 +0000 UTCI’ve gotten stuck on the arrow one not even sure where to start but I’m proud of myself for finishing the other two.

2022-03-09 02:08:20 +0000 UTCThat was a blast. This was the first time I was able to do all the puzzles without looking for hints on Discord. Prodban was difficult for me. My multiplication-fu is not strong. I had to write a script to generate a list of the possible combinations.
2022-03-08 04:24:55 +0000 UTCThere are more than 9 letters in the alphabet…. Does this help?
