The Sudokult Gospel

Joined Cracking the Cryptic Patreon recently and came across this pdf. Have just started working through Chapter 1 and found it excellent for identifying the technique that it is trying to teach you. Thank you for this wonderful tool reinforcing what Simon and Mark showcase in their videos.

I agree that Mark and Simon misrepresented this collection by calling it a teaching collection. As a newish solver, I'm finding An Old Friend very difficult indeed, but am working on understanding the [identified solving technique] and applying it to the puzzle. I look forward to the rest of the puzzles--maybe I should leave An Old Friend behind and try some of the others--but there's definitely room for an actual teaching collection of puzzles.

Just google each technique, you'll find plenty of websites that have tutorials for all of them. Most likely these advanced techniques will be needed at the point where you get stuck - and then it is a lot simpler to spot where they can be used than in the beginning of the puzzle.

Well, even if I often don't have a clue either and have to look up the technique involved, I find this series of puzzles extremely interesting and I'm quite grateful to the people who put this together free of charge.

Right, but how does that help? It doesn't tell you what those are, and there's no indication at the start that you can get that information 60+ pages later. I'm guessing you didn't actually understand my point. Unless there's a line that says "this puzzle uses technique x, which means that ...." this is not a sudoku technique training guide, but rather just a bunch of puzzles that people have no idea how to solve unless they're already pros.

On page 62 it says highlight the text to see the type of puzzle it is, please could you tell me how to do that? Don't worry actually, I copied it into Google and then I could read it, thanks

Page 62-64 tells you what technique is in the puzzle.

As someone that knows very little about techniques, I find this very confusing... What techniques am I supposed to know in order to solve these? How am I supposed to figure out those techniques without any indication whatsoever as to what they are? A brief 1 line description of what each puzzle is supposed to teach would be great, at least then I could look for the pattern/technique supposedly being taught, rather than just using what I already know, which is not a lot.

hi there! unfortunately there are really not many resources about advanced Sudoku techniques of this nature! if you'd like, you could join our discord server (linked in the document) and ask whatever questions you'd like! one of our goals is to make understanding of these techniques more available :)

I couldn't find that technique in the first puzzle even after looking it up and reading about it. OTOH, a quick bifurcation did the trick nicely and I finished rather quickly.

The CtC links aren't working for me either. I've tried them in Chrome and Safari

I'm loving these! One request would be for links that go straight to the mobile app... (Maybe with a redirect based on user-agent for android/apple) Or if you had a format that could load all the puzzles to the mobile app.. Then I could bring them with me to play on the plane ;)

As patreon bonuses go, you can't get a lot better than this. Three (not very easy, verging on evil!) puzzles down and I'm very thankful to the authors for spending so much time bringing us this pack. I may have to try solving each puzzle without knowing what technique it's meant to use. Research the technique, because after all these years of sudoku love I still haven't heard of most of them, and then try the puzzles again seeking out the technique patterns.

Highlighting, for me, did not work. But if you highlight them, copy, then paste them into notepad, you will be able to read the hints.

Is there any website/resource that the authors would recommend for learning the techniques featured in the puzzle pack? I've tried looking up unfamiliar techniques from the CtC apps with mixed success. For me, a lot of sites don't simplify the logical steps of a technique enough, and I just end up more confused than when I started.
