Nate Unseen Scene - March 2025

So, I actually had a different Unseen Scene planned—another one between Book Three and Four, but I can't find it for the life of me!

I suppose that's what I get for writing on paper, lol! I know it's here somewhere, so that should be the one coming next for the Unseen Scenes.

But I'd had this scene in my head for soooo long, and it seemed the perfect opportunity to share it instead :D

________

“And this is…what you really like to do?” Nate asks, and I can see how hard he’s trying to keep the terrified grimace from his face. “In your spare time? Your time to enjoy things?” His gaze scans the scene again with a shudder. “This is what you enjoy?”

“Ah, come on, Nate.” I run my hand down his arm and smile. “You may even find you like it.”

His expression withers. “The Agency won’t give me a license for reason.”

I snort as I fail at holding back my chuckle.

A Go-kart whizzes past us, the driver letting out an excited holler before the sound drifts away as they pass by at speed.

Tension seeps through Nate.

“You really don’t have to do this,” I remind him. Something I’ve been reminding him over and over the whole hour it took to get here. “It’s just ‘cause I had the free vouchers for it, and I thought of you—”

“I’m glad to hear you think of me.” The tension drains away to a purr that catches his voice.

I clear my throat as a happy shiver runs through me. “Well, you’d said you wanted to do more of my things together.” I hold out a hand towards the karting track lined with piles of tyres and bright fencing. Checkered flags wave as though greeting anyone who might want to try out the experience. “This is my thing.”

“I am centuries old,” he whispers to himself, drawing in a breath as he flexes his fingers and closes his eyes. “I can handle this.”

I bite my lip to stop another laugh before it breaks free.

It’s all too easy to see the vampires as infallible—especially so of Nate, as he captured my heart the second we met, meaning he can do little wrong in my eyes.

But seeing him now, so…human and unsure, has my love for him growing ten-fold.

“If it gets too much, we can stop at any time,” I say as we enter through the ticket booth. The previous drivers are pulling into the parking spots, clambering out of the low, metal-framed, brightly painted vehicles ready for us to clamber in.

“Uh huh,” Nate replies, distracted as he tries to fit his long, lean limbs into the confines of the Go-kart.

The assistants watch with close appreciation at his task until he finally squeezes inside.

“Are you ready?” I call over the sound of the small engines revving.

Nate gives the thumbs up after pressing a few buttons sceptically.

I enjoy the sight of him engaging in something I enjoy for just a while longer before pressing my foot on the peddle and rocketing away across the winding and curving tarmac track.

The wind rushes past me, the air primed with the scent of diesel and heat. Overwhelming, some might say, but it brings back floods of memories of my teenage years.

It’s a kind of freedom I didn’t think I’d ever find again.

And I haven’t found that exact feeling…but a definite freedom is all I get when I’m with Nate. When I’m with him, I’m myself. I can’t be anyone but myself. And that scared the wits out of me to start with. Yet he’s still here, wanting to learn more about me, wanting to experience the things I love, the things I don’t, and everything in between.

Together.

The thought has me slowing as I reach the beginning of the track again to find Nate hasn’t even pulled away yet.

A smile plasters my face as I approach him, slowing to a stop at the side of his car. “Are you alright?”

“I couldn’t start,” he admits.

I frown, leaning over slightly. “Why not? Do you know where the peddles—”

“I couldn’t move because I was too busy watching you,” he continues, smiling in a way that makes his brown eyes glimmer with sunshine.

It takes my breath away.

I reach out and rest my hand on his. “Want to share mine?”

His smile widens.

“Uh, actually we don’t normally—” But the assistant’s words are ignored as Nate slides into the Go-Kart behind me, wrapping both legs and arms around my body and holding on tight.

“Are you ready?” I ask, enjoying the way I can feel his heartbeat against my back.

He leans in closer, his breath caressing my ear. “I’ll go wherever you lead, ya rouhi.”

Tingles erupts through me, and I press the peddle harder than I mean to. We pull away in a speeding rush, but neither of us seem bothered.

As long as we’re together, everything else is always a blur anyway.

Comments

This was such a fun scene! I love getting to see N out of their comfort zone and being a bit uncertain like this. And also that they do want to give it a try, because it's something the MC loves!

Seren

Smooth, Nate. I know you didn't know what to do, but I'll let it slide. 😆
