Update: The Future of the NotACast
Added 2022-07-18 16:59:48 +0000 UTC
Hey everyone!
I have bad news and good news.
The bad news: Jeff will not be returning to the podcast. He has some family issues right now that have to come first. It sucks, and I’ll miss doing this with him, as I know all of you will miss hearing him.
The good news: our friend Manu is coming on board as the new co-host of the NotACast!
If you don’t know Manu, head on over to his Patreon and check out his multiple awesome podcasts: Podcast Sans Frontieres, all about the Metal Gear Solid series, and My Brother, My Captain, My Podcast, all about the Lord of the Rings film adaptations. You should also check out his Twitter; honestly, there’s no better follow on the hellsite. Of course, Manu has also joined us on the NotACast for multiple episodes--give a listen to his appearances on AGOT Bran IV and ACOK Bran VII. Not only does he do great work, but he’s one of my favorite people, and I’m so excited to jump back into ASOIAF with him. (UPDATE: check out Manu's post on joining the NotACast!)
Here’s the plan: I’ll be recording a couple more Star Wars and Lord of the Rings episodes over the next couple weeks, wrapping up Attack of the Clones and the Battle of the Pelennor Fields, respectively. Then I’ll take a week off, as I’m starting a new job (hooray for me!) Manu and I will release our first ASOIAF episode (on Sansa’s third chapter in A Storm of Swords) to patrons starting 8/18 and to everyone on 8/22. From there, we’ll be recording ASOIAF chapter-by-chapter episodes every other week, released first to patrons starting on Thursdays and then to everyone on Mondays. We might switch back to weekly ASOIAF episodes at some point; we'll revisit it after Season 1 of House of the Dragon is done airing.
I will also be carrying on with both SW and LOTR episodes for patrons only on a monthly basis, starting in September. In other words, a typical month will go: ASOIAF ep→LOTR ep→ASOIAF ep→SW ep. Once I finish up LOTR (sometime late next year), I’m planning on returning to Fevre Dream as well.
We will also be recording short weekly episodes reviewing each House of the Dragon episode, which will be available for everyone. I’m also going to finally be recording my long-promised House of the Dragon preview episode with Zack from Game of Owns; we’ll also be discussing GOO’s excellent recent interview of George R.R. Martin himself, which you can (and should!) listen to here.
So here’s the NotACast release schedule for the next few months:

Finally, I want to say how much I appreciate your patience. I know it’s been a while since the NotACast did what it does best, and I totally understand any disappointment regarding Jeff not returning. I only hope you give Manu and I the chance to win you back, because I promise we’re going to make the podcast as good as before, if not even better.
Much love,
Emmett
Devastated that Jeff won’t be returning!! But you gotta do what you gotta do. Please send him my warmest regards! And thank you Emmett for keeping everything together and afloat! We appreciate you and I’m personally very excited for Manu’s takes on the stories. Loved your first episode together!

Warm wishes to Jeff and his family. I hope everything works out well. I am definitely going to miss him and his insights - and his GRRM impersonation, which always cracked me up and reminded me of the George Steinbrenner impersonation on “Seinfeld.” Hope he knows how many of us enjoy ASOIAF more because of his contributions.

All the best to Jeff and his family. He will be missed, but family has to come first. It speaks to the quality of the fandom that his replacement will be someone just as amazing.
PS. Glad to know that we'll continue to hear Emmett's thoughts on LotR and Star Wars. Though not as often as we've become accustomed to.

Dang. Going to really miss the micro commentaries in Jeff's summaries and really just his role in this fandom. Been enjoying the hell out of the Star Wars stuff. Crazy to think that HOTD and (next week) Winds will be released and I won't be hearing Jeff's thoughts. In any event excited to get back on the ride this August.

Sending lots of love to Jeff. Having THE Brynden B Fish on a weekly pod was definitely a big draw for me when this show started. He will be missed. Emmet, thank you for carrying on solo during the Jeff breaks and providing us with such wonderful content, week in week out. Extremely excited to have Manu as a regular, his Podcast Sans Frontiers is one of my favourites. Welcome Manu!

Gonna miss the hell out of Jeff. He was such a tour de force in the ASOIAF community, and put so much work on all the analysis (and meta-analysis) of the series he did. I completely understand his decision though and hope the best for him. Excited to see the return of ASOS to the notacast done by you and Manu, he was great when he was a guest on previous episodes!

Such ambivalence! I am deeply sad to see Jeff go. It will be strange to listen to new chapter analyses without him. AND ALSO Manu is truly one of my favorite voices on Twitter. Hard to imagine a better pick. Can’t wait for you two to dig into the rest of ASOS together!

Sorry to hear Jeff's gone- he was a singular voice in the ASOIAF community and will be missed.
Emmett- you've been killing it holding down the fort on your own.
Manu- I was introduced to Manu through the Metal Gear episode y'all did. He's a great host who will be a great regular addition to NotACast

Hi Emmett, thanks for the update. Best wishes for Jeff and his family- we all understand that has to come first, as much as we will miss him. I'll still be tuning in and looking forward to seeing what you and Manu cover for ASOIAF, and definitely looking forward to hearing your HotD thoughts with Zack! Your patrons appreciate all your hard, thoughtful work! :)

You'll be sorely missed, Jeff. I'm devastated to lose you, but the most important thing is family and I wish you the best with whatever you are going through. Thanks for the update, Emmett. It'll take a while to adjust to you and Manu as the hosts, although I am confident you two will do great work.

Hope Jeff & all are doing ok. Can we at least keep his spoilers all warning at the front? “Anything, aaaand everything” maybe? Glad the pod is picking asoiaf back up, though. Good luck with the new job too.

Thanks for the update. Jeff’s insights have been valued and enjoyable but family and non-podcasting life has to come first. All the best to him and perhaps we will see him somewhere in the ASOIAF-sphere in the future.

I will miss the back and forth between you two, but as I am going through family issues as well, I completely understand Jeff’s decision and wish him and his family all the love and luck I can.
I also look forward to the episodes with Manu. I enjoyed the episodes he was a part of and thought he added some good insight.
Thank you for the update and I appreciate all the hard work you put into this!
