Minor correction, Emmett: Earendil was the son of a different Elf/Human union, namely that between Idril, daughter of King Turgon of Gondolin, son of Fingolfin of Hithlum, son of Finwe of Tirion, and Tuor, son of Huor, son of Galdor, son of Hador, son of Hathol, son of Magor, son of Malach, son of Marach. However, his wife Elwing was the granddaughter of Luthien and Beren via their son Dior.

2021-06-14 16:20:04 +0000 UTCMy favourite Nazgul moment from the films was when Frodo and the Witch King are having a literal tug a war over the Ring. It's just a perfect example of taking something that's highly internal and symbolic in the books and adapting it to a visual medium. Similarly, having the characters just talk about how the Nazgul are afraid of fire, but lighting a fire could also give away their position, as happens in the book, would be clunky. Instead, we have the Hobbits light a fire and enjoy a nice meal just before the Nazgul show up. On first view, we sympathize with Frodo's view of his friends folly and carelessness, but the Nazgul weren't there before he put out the fire... If there's one thing from the book I wish the film had kept, it would be Frodo's staredown with the Nazgul at the Ford of Bruinen. This is his No Chance and No Choice moment. The Nazgul have him cornered, yet he continues to defy them until he is no longer capable of doing so. Having the confrontation between the much more powerful Arwen and the Nazgul makes it lose some of its impact. Not to mention that Arwen almost certainly knew that the ford would flood, something Frodo could not have known when he chose to defy the Nazgul.
