Thanks for the Episode! On the chevauchée-Part: Maybe GRRM also referenced later, early modern conflicts? When you talked about the devastation of the riverlands, the first historical analogy I thought of was the Thirty Years War 1618-1648. The Holy Roman Empire lost about a quarter of its population, some regions even more than a half. The reason was mostly because the troops were made of mercenaries who had to live off the lands they crossed, "The war will feed itself" etc. Poland-Lithuania was also similarly ravaged during the Second Northern War 1655-1660. To be fair, these are tragedies long time after the medieval times, but still quite famous (at least the 30J. War in Germany), so maybe they could have factored in.

Thank you for the great episode. Thank you, too, for the strong smack-down of the nonsensical/psychopathic argument that would seek to justify crimes against humanity because, uh, 'history'(!) (though it's so depressing that there are people out there who peddle it)
