This episode reminded me of something I hadn't considered since S8E6 aired: did Viserys's fate foreshadow Daenerys's end? Upon reading it in 2003 (& later seeing it in the show) I always felt like it did. Viserys's hapless pursuit of the Iron Throne a.k.a. the Westerosi 'crown', his absolute conviction it belongs to him, & his sense of an almost divine right to rule over others is what kills him. When I saw the throne torched I couldn't help but think of Viserys and his melting crown. That he appears this way in Dany's dreams rather than as a forebear urging her on or mighty like Rhaegar/Rhaego seems like a warning. Shout out to Emilia Clarke for doing a fine job in S7-S8 of mimicking Harry Lloyd's voice, expressions, & mannerisms whenever Daenerys got heated. Whether Emilia did it consciously or not, Dany's on screen flashes of resemblance to the Viserys portrayal convinced me long ago that her show story would end the way it did.

In other words: should I start reading Fevre Dream this summer, or can it wait until I read it with you anyway? (I've read Dying of the Light, by the way, and I'm really looking forward to hearing your thoughts on that too).
