Random Poll #12 : Multiple Transmigrators

Note: This poll isn't related to Wind Calamity. I have no plans to include another transmigrator so late into the story (at least not yet).

Okay, a two part poll. First, what are your thoughts on stories with multiple transmigrators? With each transmigrator unaware of the presence of other transmigrators (though they could connect the dots/be suspicious).

Secondly, if a story has multiple transmigrators, would you prefer them to be revealed at the start of the story, or would you not mind them being introduced mid-way through the story?

My first thought was that introducing them mid-way through the story could increase suspense and make it more impactful, though the counter argument could be that it is lazy writing. Every time I need a new challenge for my MC, I could just pull out a new transmigrator and make things tricky for him (at least I would feel so if I'm reading such a story). So, a bit confused about this and I wanna hear your thoughts about it.

I did think of a way around it. I could introduce the characters early on in the story, just not mention that they are transmigrators until the opportune time. Though I suppose you guys will figure it out in fanfics, I think they'll be quite intriguing and suspenseful in an original novel. So, let me know your thoughts. If you have any other ideas on how I can incorporate them into the story, feel free to write them down :)

PS: Start doesn't necessarily mean first chapter or even the first arc, just early on in the story and whenever it is the right time to introduce that character. They won't be forcefully introduced.

Comments

I think this answer depends on the size of your cast. If you are going to feature several main characters in a 3-4 person squad, I think having them all be transmigrators could be interesting.

There could be multiple transmigrators but: 1. they unlock their past life memories at the different points of time, eg unlock upon hitting certain milestones/levels 2. they have different levels of knowledge/ignorance of the future 3. they have different job/hobby skillsets from their past life 4. one of them regressed from future instead of transmigrating 5. one of them reincarnated from a higher dimension

I usually don't like multiple transfiguration but there was a Naruto fic I once read where the the MC met a bartender in a village near Konoho. That bartender turned out to be a transmigrator(MC and the guy recognised each other cuz they accidentally spoke English). This allowed MC to share some of his burdens with a guy who understood. In this case, the other transmigrator was not even a side character, but he appeared a few times and I think that was quite good, because the guy was living his life peacefully without having anything to do with story.

https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/83850/bring-on-the-leisure-a-chimera-core-litrpg in this book that has just begun, he has put some transmigrators that the protagonist discovers later in the story, it is very interesting as a mechanic, it is a pity that the book is stopped, but the transmigrators that have always been there but the protagonist did not know it

Zaoprimo

Both, just not this one.

Cool, thanks :)

As I said, this poll wasn't for Wind Calamity 😅

Devil Hex

It is possible but hard to pull off if introduced late but at the height of one u can introduce others but if late it's hard to give a reason y they exist now

Kwabena Kumi

Honestly I like this story if you need more powerful enemies just create more of those powerful beasts in the ocean or in space

Raghav S

If its only at the very end of the story, in the epilogue? Then sure, I guess, since it won't affect the main story at all. I don't really see the point in doing that though.

rain

It's possible but to pull it off it has to be introduced early

Kwabena Kumi

And what if that transmigrant only appears in the epilogue of Calamity of the Wind? It would still be (not yet), but a final surprise, because the subject of transmigration will always be a subject that is easy to accept, it is not very human.

Rubén López

There is something that can always be questionable and that is that there is only one transmigrant. I have seen novels that play with this idea that there is a whole myth behind these characters, some successes but also failures, and even a culture of their own that tries to imitate that of the place of origin of the reincarnated/transmigrant/transported/summoned. Unfortunately I have not seen them shine for more than having a good idea, and that they did not do much after that, and the thing is that it becomes boring. I would say that in the case of Calamity of Wind, it is in itself a story that has quite a few of its own things, and the original story is in the background and is an anchor of events told in a different way, making it more of the author's job to make things interesting and not the same story, just with other words.

Rubén López

There can be multiple transmigrators but they have to be at least told and/or alluded to early. Either at the start of a story or leading into the interaction.

Jaimenz

Generally prefer one. The point is to follow his story. I can't deal with too many protagonists.

faintmeteor

If there are multiple transmigrators, that needs to be mentioned at the beginning. Because essentially it changes the entire premise of the story. Whenever I get halfway through a fic and another transmigrator is introduced, I always end up dropping it, because it is betraying my expectations. I was having fun reading a story where the MC had this unique trait, a secret that shouldn't be revealed to anyone else. But then that was pulled out from underneath, changing the future progression of the story completely.

Diametric

The LN of course

GastricSalmon36

I don’t have a problem with multiple transmigrators; in fact, So I’m a Spider So What? is one of my favorites that has just that.

GastricSalmon36

Multiple transmigrators but make like game of thrones where its not clear which ones will be big winners at the end and can give mc a run for his money. Like if possible as premise take that transmigraters only transmigrated because they either were very compotent on earth or had some character trait that was deemed them qualified to transmigrate, whatever it is dont make transmigrations random it never make sense

Kenny

Eu queria que o Fujin se tornasse o Jinchirik da besta do Mar que esta no meio de redemoinho gigante. Seria um UP legal e combinaria com ele que sabe manipular o espaço.

Gilberto Silva De Matoa

A lot of immigrants, it's a huge risk, especially if it's fan fiction. Basically, I won't speak for everyone, but I always liked that the main character has his own uniqueness/advantage and if you remove it, then you need to make it a masterpiece - few can do it. I wouldn't advise taking such a risk and chose a simpler, but at the same time working option.

Aldar

Also, you said “at least not yet” for adding another transmigrator in wind calamity, I’d rather it just never happen, even if it means Fujin will have no equals by that point. We’re almost at 1000 chapters with Fujin.

rain

(If there is another transmigrator in wind calamity) Fujin is more than enough, however its true that only a transmigrator from earth can connect with fujin socially. It would also be a great rivalry for fujin but its going to take the reader away from fujin the MC who is the main focus. Developing a new character like a transmigrator will remove screentime from the audience favorite Fujin

Cesar GM

If it’s in something like an original novel, it’s fine. “Magic academy’s genius blinker” does this pretty well. If it’s in something like a Naruto fanfic where the MC is also a transmigrator? Absolutely not. Story loses all its uniqueness then and there, unless it’s made very clear from the beginning that there are multiple. Maybe the MC reads a book and discovers an exceptional hero that wasn’t there during the second war, who created a jutsu called “Rasengan”.

rain

I feel that this is something that should be setting dependant, with wind calamity MC being the only one feels like it's part of what sets him apart, in the setting such things basically don't happen, on the other end of the spectrum we have Death March to another world, reincarnation is a staple of the setting, while not a large part of the population, there are a few hundred to a few thousand running around the world at any given time. The number matters less than the reason they are there, MC only? Often unexplained and just it's what makes em special, lots of em? Probably plot related nonsense or setting baseline.

nivlek

One way I think that this could work is if they transmigrated to a story with prior knowledge. As seen in most fanfics. All transmigrators are introduced later in to the story, but their is continuous build up, as in subtle information throughout the story. This information would be events or items that the MC has knowledge of being changed or not found. The other transmigrators will continuously alter the story through the butterfly effect. Then once certain events unfold you can out right introduce or claim that there are multiple transmigrators. Makes the story interesting and mysterious. Out right pointing it out at the start is pretty boring.

Dailoo

I agree which make the difference between the first story and the sequel on how transmigrators were used one was used with the presence of transmigrators being figured out the other the transmigrators were more actively in the story

marlo560

If you think about it this way. Let's say the story is about the classic summoning of heroes from another world to defeat the demon king. The main character could be that hero, but who came back in time. Or it could be some talented guy from this world (not summoned from another world), who was betrayed by a group of Heroes and came back in time.

TrustZee

I liked LotM because they weren’t there at the same time, kinda. Minor spoiler: Roselle was a figure in the past and *** had already become a god a long time ago.

Greedsmith

I'd do something similar like surviving the game as a barbarian. Btw its a great manga to read.

Shea McConnaughey

I remember a novel where the mc transmigrates into a game where the fmc is a regressor in said game. I believe it was I Became The Academy’s Blind Swordsman, I quite liked it.

Greedsmith

introduce the transmigrators first and reveal that they are transmigrators, but also introduce others but later in the story

hector lyng

Well, in general I'm not a fan of many transmigrators, but if there are several of them, it's better to introduce them at the moment they appear in the plot, but keep the fact of their transmigration in secret until a certain moment.

TrustZee

I would reference Hero of Darkness by CrimsonWolfAuthor, multiple transmigrators that each have unique abilities, done very well.

Colin

Depends on the type of story your trying to write honestly the only story I've seen that pulled of multiple transmigrators is lord of the mystery and it's sequel circle of inevitably the first story was mainly about the mc transmigator with him slowly figuring out the the past influences were by transmigrators I.E Rosalie "The Taste Of A Demoness 😈 Ain't Bad" IFKYK 🤣😂 and the sequel introduced way more transmigrators

marlo560

My idea of it is pretty much the second option but leave the other transmigraters in the background and introduce them throughout the story

FallenOne45

Another amazing Naruto fanfic handles this in an amazing way, the transmigration was very different. The mc is from a cultivation world and the other transmigrator is from earth and has knowledge of the Naruto world. I think another interesting take would be for one to be reincarnated with past memories, one to be summoned, one to transmigrated, etc

CodeBeholder

Multiple transmigrators kinda cancel the uniqueness of the MC. It also expose his plot armor if he performs better than the other transmigrators for no reason other than 'luck?' and 'talent?'

Nyd. Studio

I prefer if only the mc is a transmigrator, but I could be swayed if it is well written. And about them being introduced as such really depends on the writing, having it only be revealed later on that they’re also a transmigrator could really work if written well. I guess what I’m trying to say is that it could all work as long as it is thought out and well written, which we all know you can do.

Greedsmith

Are we talking fan fictions or original works?
