Random Poll #9 : Romance Types
Added 2025-02-12 18:13:43 +0000 UTCHey guys. Wondering which sort of romance do you like to see in novels/fanfics. Will list out a few, but feel free to comment if there's a different type of romance you like to see.
1. Idealistic : When MC and his partner fall in love, their love towards each other never wavers, no matter the circumstances. Of course, there could be other problems, like say opposition from parents/family/clan/sect, love rivals, circumstances that force the two away from each other and other such things, but the emotions between these two always stay strong.
Most cultivation novels and even action manga generally follow this one. I did wonder why, and the answer was rather easy. Other types take too much energy and time and will take the focus away from power progression and action. Anyway, don't let this affect your decision. I just want to know what you guys prefer.
2. Modern : Generally what we see in most tv dramas, I think (not that I have much of a sample size here, lol). The two are in an on-off relationship and also date others (one at a time) when not in a relationship. I guess example would be Leonard-Penny from BBT or Rachel-Ross from friends.
3. Death : A simple one. Idealistic love followed by her death. MC doesn't fall in love again.
4. Death + Love after : MC's partner dies. He falls in love again later in the story. I guess an example can be John Snow (granted both his partners die).
5. Multiple Partners : Not a blind harem. Basically, each partner will be an independent and a proper character and there will be proper explanation (mostly created through circumstances) that justify multiple partners and why other partners accept it (but no partner drama as I can never write that, lol). Basically what most harem stories promise but none deliver.
6. Catch em all : Self-explanatory
7. No partners, just random hook-ups: I'll be honest. Hadn't particularly thought of this, but saw it more than once in comments. Just adding it here for them.

2025-02-23 20:34:45 +0000 UTCMy favorite is ‘unexpected.’ Like Rebecca/Matt or Jeremy/Bonnie or Damon/Bonnie or Stefan/katherine in TVD, Clark/Alicia in smallville, Kyle/jessie in Kyle xy, Haley/andy or Haley/arvin or Luke/milf (forgot the characters name) in modern family.. Basically start as alienated or legit enemies or potential enemies, and gradually grow closer unexpectedly. I like it because if it comes out from left field, I feel like there’s more suspense. That way the ‘will they / won’t they’ becomes an actual question instead of just a plot device

2025-02-18 13:42:48 +0000 UTCI agree that, unfortunately, this kind of relationship is the hardest to capture in writing because it thrives on subtleties, small moments, and deep character development.

2025-02-14 09:14:34 +0000 UTCWhat about a realistic relationship? As far as I can tell, there isn’t really an option here that represents that. I suppose one could argue that the “Modern” category is meant to depict realism, but I personally disagree. Modern romance, as described here, leans towards the on-again, off-again dynamic, which often includes elements of toxicity, misunderstandings, and stagnation. While this certainly exists in the real world, it’s far from the only way relationships unfold. In contrast, I find myself drawn to a more grounded and fulfilling type of romance—one built on trust, mutual respect, and a slow-burning connection. A relationship where both people are romantically interested in each other but still prioritize their personal goals, aspirations, and self-growth. Instead of making their entire existence about the relationship, they support and uplift each other while maintaining a sense of individuality. There’s an emotional depth to this kind of romance that feels both realistic and aspirational, and I’d love to see it represented more often in stories. Would love to hear if anyone else enjoys this type of dynamic!

2025-02-13 10:38:52 +0000 UTCFujin is pretty practical, besides not being an MC, like Naruto would be in his story because that still implies some connection, and the closest he has would be Kakuzu or Sasori, who he has faced twice already. There isn't much rivalry to form when it comes to killing each other. It usually ends quickly since they are missions. Not competitions XD
Rubén López
2025-02-13 05:33:34 +0000 UTCyes and you are completely right, it is just that providing more motivation in the form of rivalry of sorts, or some battle where he is on the same level, this could be later on incase he fights Madara or something, or a battle where he wins with difficulty, Like a proper MC instead of being extremely OP and all the veterans appearing like children Infront of him. what you said is true he did have tough battles like with Sasory and that is part of the reason why i love this story fanfic.

2025-02-13 05:12:15 +0000 UTCUsually I like idealistic. Really not usually a fan of relationship drama, it makes me think of irl too much 😅. I also like the random hookups type romance, although that is usually for smut stories lol

2025-02-13 00:55:02 +0000 UTCI think for Fujin it should start off as modern and then into an idealistic relationship later on. I feel Fujin as a character is a super hard shell to break and even harder to find his inner emotions, so i believe him slowly gaining an interaction with a woman here and there over time after a 1 night stand would make sense, where she goes about her life and they end up meeting coincidentally over time like in situations where she’s a weaker ninja and being summoned to a battlefield where fujin is and he can decide to spare her or give her a decision to meet him again in bed or be slaughtered. This is just a thought and can be taken in a different setting

2025-02-13 00:49:01 +0000 UTCI think it's just that Fujin always plays it safe, preferring to flee before a confrontation if it's an option. At least with Kakuzo it was like that, and even more so when Itachi and Konan were approaching, against Sasori and Deidara he was just starting out, and he took advantage of opportunities to force them. With Orochimaru it seems that it was intense. But I think that feeling is due a lot to the "Trash Talk no Jutsu", which seeks to take advantage of annoying the opponent in any way possible in order to get an opening, and being that he knows some characters more than he should know, it simply makes him "a pain in the ass" for whoever faces him.

2025-02-12 23:45:54 +0000 UTCHaving clones along with large chakra reserves, along with Shiden being more of an administrator, and Akuro being a madman who appears and disappears, makes having a double or triple life possible, especially when one is an old man who I don't see aspiring to anything more than spending his last years making the world a better place, and an old madman, XD.
Rubén López
2025-02-12 23:39:49 +0000 UTCI quite like idealistic. I can imagine Fujin meeting someone whos similar to him in their sense of practicality and focus on themselves. If they're able to mutually help each other, then that would form a pretty good basis for a relationship. Doesn't have to be all lovey dovey. Maybe they just end up appreciating each others company and opinions more and more, eventually just wanting to be around each other for the sake of it. It might be difficult to write a character with enough power to meaningfully fight by his side, so perhaps giving her a lot of witt and some extreme mastery over something that Fujin can't relplicate would be a good way of making the character significant. I feel like a relationship is only possible if he's able to trust someone enough to reveal several of his secrets too though... which would be difficult. Or maybe she figures out one of his secrets and he doesn't kill her for it?

2025-02-12 23:17:32 +0000 UTCThis story resolve around Fujin trying to survive the war, if ( I hope he do) he loves someone, kami have mercy of the poor devil. there is no reason to kill her. Fujin destroy Danzo because he try to go against him in the counsel, imagine if people try to hurt something he actually loves.

2025-02-12 21:35:09 +0000 UTCWith the low birth rates in the West, and China/Japan/Korea, it's a good motto to follow.

2025-02-12 21:12:58 +0000 UTCjust a normal love story, no need for the over complication of it. keep it simple, make her strong not the useless type that will always be looking at his back and completely useless. perhaps few scenes where she would fight alongside him or something like that. None related note: I know he is the main character, but it would be nice to have a rival, or someone strong that can be comparable to him, it is not nice when he is always the strongest, even though you have legendary figures in the anime, whenever the main character enters they become like children, it's doesn't really fit the natural flow of the story. this is just my opinion, thought i should mention it. thanks for the story, love it so far. Take care.

2025-02-12 21:02:11 +0000 UTC5 and 6 for me are a big no, compared to any fiction that I come across, the only exception I had was the manga of the 100 brides, but that thing was never taken seriously in itself, but it was still too much with 100 XD. Apart from that I have an ideological contempt for him. The idealist is the best in the case of stories like Calamity of the Wind since the strength is in other elements so something simple but solid allows the focus of its strength not to be lost and in turn the simple wins because it does not get involved in unnecessary things. That was something that even if you want to deny it was something relevant in the Original Naruto, come on, in what story have you seen where a movie is made about the protagonist's partner in a work, and nothing more than that they make him look like a horrible person if the retcon of that movie is taken valid, Naruto being treated like an idiot, making him feel bad for not seeing Hinata in a certain way, and that he falls into a Genjutsu to "realize that he loves Hinata", and that his friend tells him that she never liked her because it was just competitiveness, making his first and true love only Hinata. In Naruto, although it was intended to create a love triangle, there were never the elements for that to be possible, since Naruto liked Sakura, and Sakura liked Sasuke. And the narrative could indicate that in the second part of Naruto that Sakura was a girl who made the decision to see with different eyes the boy who remains with her, as happens to Sakura from Card Captor. Let's say that the statements of "A girl doesn't easily change her feelings, or that she would look horrible if she changed who she's in love with" were things to justify scenarios and that fans of certain couples would only settle for something poorly done. Outside of that, the topic of idealism is sometimes belittled with the excuse of "reality", "complexity", "gray", which are sometimes pretentious words for what is love between a couple, in stories where the development has other strengths. Outside of that, there are times where the distinction between romance and love is not marked, because romance looks better in tragedy due to the outcomes that usually come from decisions that are obviously bigger than the characters can handle, especially the consequences. Also my thought on whether I would like to see Fujin with a partner, my list continues with Anko as something that I see with the personality game, the curse seal, that she is now the only snake summoner as well as being a character that could always be more in the canon, for some reason she is usually a fun character in fics (although sometimes they exaggerate her personality or it is not very close to how it is portrayed in the canon), and although she is not that powerful the fact that she was able to with the curse seal will open doors to do something about it. Apart from that in Boruto like almost all of them her state is somewhat sad even though they try to sell the idea that everything is fine, let's say that Orochimaru and Kabuto are as if Nothing, with characters like Yamato, Anko and Konohamaru, it gives one food for thought. The 7th will never convince me as a main character, it just seems like something curious about a character, but not something I want to see because they treat life itself in a frivolous way.

2025-02-12 20:21:49 +0000 UTCIn the world of Naruto that would be villains, just look at the couples and children in Naruto, they are either single parents or childhood/young adult loves. That or they stay alone even though it would make sense for them to have a partner.

2025-02-12 20:14:07 +0000 UTCI voted idealistic alfho i also like the multiple partner option ... just think it suits less for fujin. but just saying - u can mix it up Going modern with 1 girl for a while in a not too serious relationship and then idealistic Or going hook ups and then idealistic

2025-02-12 20:09:40 +0000 UTCTaking into account fujins mental age and how is his character constructed, It would make much more sense to me if he only married for convenience, although in the process he might gain a little appreciation for her, the type of woman, as long as she is not a Mary Sue in my opinion it can be fine.

2025-02-12 19:48:37 +0000 UTCGiven Fujin's talent, I believe he should pair with another genius, like you did with him and the Uchiha girl who died in the story. Power couples are a rarity in cultivation novels, but they're more rational.

2025-02-12 19:11:02 +0000 UTCSleeping around seems to be more in line with Fujin's personality. There isnt really a space for "deep romance" in this novel, even less for any kind of idealistic romance, it doesn't fit with Fujin. But mariage can be involved with for exemple Konaha pushing for him to take a wife and have children, for political purpose or to make sure his biological heritage survive his eventual death in battle. It doesn't require romance but still create a deep relationship with a woman. This seems to be more in line with a universe like that.

2025-02-12 19:01:07 +0000 UTCAs for the type of woman, I’d love someone that can put even Fujin in check at times. 😆

2025-02-12 18:53:16 +0000 UTCI'm not sure the difference between idealistic and modern...I think it's open for interpretation depending on the person...but a girlfriend he needs to be strong enough to protect...in fujins case she needs to be strong enough to not hold him back...it fits his character and personality

2025-02-12 18:52:08 +0000 UTCI think that it would make sense that fujin has random hook ups, he’s a young bachelor, hasn’t had any romance with any characters other than admiration from a few female characters like Mei. I just find it weird that Fujin has zero interest at all, romance would just make him more of a relatable character. Although with Fujin going off and around the world, this opens ample opportunity to introduce new characters that could be on a similar level as him. My vote would be a singular romance (idealistic) or Fujin as a bachelor.

2025-02-12 18:36:01 +0000 UTCIdealistic is your best option for a story like Fujin's. While it takes time to do right it doesn't take alot of time to maintain it in your story. It is the highest payout for the least amount of effort. Of course assuming it is written well. Modern and or a growing love is the best but it takes time to do and in Fujins case I think the story is a bit too far along with almost no focus being on it.

2025-02-12 18:23:54 +0000 UTCIn my opinion I think a relationship followed by the death of the female partner is best. Fujin out of curiosity decides to discover what it's like to love, why people would risk their lives for other people (moving without thinking) and when the partner dies, he goes berserk, his being somewhat refusing that what he experienced was all for nothing. Fujin for the first time would go all out without no restraint, FTG , battlefield, summoning, sage art, yin-yang boosted jutsu
