Life Update

TL;DR Life's been rough, but I'm very slowly but surely getting my passion back for art. I'm finally learning Maya (and Blender), hopefully I'll be back to making 3D soon enough.

Hey, it's been a while. I've been on a long 2 year hiatus (2023) because of life and mental reasons. I haven't been well and it's been taking a lot out of me to just get by day by day. And during that a lot of things I used to love doing and was passionate about simply died with it, art being one of them.

The first half-year of my hiatus had passed and I hadn't touched art at all in any shape or form. I was simply rotting away. Another few more months passed and I had surprisingly suddenly picked up the pencil and got back to drawing, which I hadn't properly done in years (I got BG3 to thank for that). So for the past year all I've done is dedicate myself into improving with my drawing skills. After a lot of self-critiquing later, I finally felt an improvement. With all those baby-steps and the feeling of slight improvement, I've felt within the past few months my love for art slowly coming back to me (pray I don't jinx it by saying that lol).

Verso (2025), made by me

I've missed this, a lot, especially 3D. All I've managed to scrap out these past 2 years is the Alleria x Xal render. Mainly because of the passion being completely dead, but also my frustration over the software I've been using all this time. It's ancient, it's ass, I need to move on. But moving on means committing.

I've wanted to learn Maya for years now after Liard did his switch, but I'm scared of commitment and afraid of bothering people for help (even tho they've offered help multiple times without me asking). But now thanks to Liard and Delaera for encouraging and supporting me, it's finally happening.

Me and Del have had many lessons from Liard now, some things taking longer for me to wrap my head around and others coming naturally to me. It's been a slow process for me, but it's going forward. I've taken many notes during the lessons and saved many video tutorials on a Notion pad. It's been my go-to for whenever I forget how to do certain things, bless you past-self for doing this lol

Quick overview of my notes

On top of all those lessons, I've gotten a new job recently that has kind of "forced" me into learning more 3D as a whole (they use Blender at the office, which I'm being forced to learn as well lol). So combining all that help and support, I'm starting to feel more comfortable with 3D again.

Some sort of artifact I've made for work

And here we are now! With all that patience and practice, I've finally given Alva the model update that she desperately needed and deserved :)

Alvarina's model update

To summarize it all, I'm finding my footing again. Hopefully I'll be "back" to making more regular content soon enough. I just wanted to leave this little update for you guys, and a thanks to you all who (for some reason) are still around. Thank you♡
