Lutris 0.5.7 is released!
Added 2020-07-04 00:44:56 +0000 UTCI'm happy to announce the release of Lutris 0.5.7! With this version, we tried to clean up our mess. Not only many bugs have been fixed, more checks have been put in place to ensure a cleaner code base (thanks @AlexanderRavenheart!); it was also time for our MESS runner to go... It's been a long time since the MESS emulator has been merged into the MAME project so there's not really any point maintaining a MESS runner in Lutris. All your MESS games will be migrated to MAME. Any feature the MESS runner had has been ported to the MAME runner. We also now extract data from MAME itself, making it possible to have a list of all systems supported by MAME (and there's a LOT!).

We had to make some adjustments to avoid overwhelming users with a huge list of systems...
Lutris is now compatible with the latest version of gamemode, which uses a `gamemoderun` executable instead of preloading librairies. This mean you no longer have to worry about having both 64bit and 32bit variants of libgamemode installed.
The 0.5.7 release also it the first to have a complete internationalization support. This is possible thanks to the amazing work of @stephanlachnit who ported the build system to Meson/Ninja for translation files. Right after that, @YihoaPeng submitted another amazing contribution with the localization of all strings in the code base along with a complete translation of the project in Chinese! This has already been put to good use and thanks to @Vistaus, Lutris is now also available in Dutch!

The Lutris UI, fully translated in Chinese
There are lots of other things in the works. Notably, the next release will focus on some UI updates to make navigation and general use easier. There's also Linux is gaining a lot of traction currently. This is a good time to make Linux gaming shine. This feels like a key moment; we have recent titles (Doom Eternal, Red Dead Redemption 2) running better on Linux than they do on the platform they were meant to run on. Pop!_OS 20.04 is considered a viable option for PC building contests. We even have very early signs of EAC support in Linux, one of the last components in having a fully complete gaming platform. The future is exciting and Lutris is all here for that!
Stay safe, everyone and have fun playing games on Lutris!
