SHOULD There Be More Anime Dubs Like Ghost Stories? (Commentary)

Commentary for our video on the Ghost Stories dub, in which Abhi and Eric make some corrections to the contents of the video, discuss the varied (and not so varied) responses to the video itself and get confused as to how people can assume any humour in a dub out-of-context is comparable to Ghost Stories' dub.

SHOULD There Be More Anime Dubs Like Ghost Stories? (Commentary)

Comments

Later, I contacted with a twitter account of Ghost Stories fan club. I asked them who cancelled series for what kind of reasons, but they said they don't know either. However, they gave some helpful information about it. Many members of Ghost Stories staff came from GTO, the previous show in the same airing slot, which was cancelled halfway through. It kinda suggests that the TV station might be involved in the situation of Ghost Stories. This is just my imagination, but it reminded me of Ryota Fujitsu's explanation on the anime production. Fujitsu is a professional anime critic/writer. He said that TV stations' involvement in anime production changed in the mid 90s. As the video makers became stakeholders of anime business, the "programming sections" of TV stations became less and less relevant, he says. In the TV network companies in general, programming and production sections are separated. Programming sections used to have a big hand in anime business in the old days, but it stopped due to anime's popularity decline. And thus, programming and production sections came to have two different attitudes towards anime. Again, this is just my imagination, but it might be that the programming section's decision caused Ghost Stories' cancellation.
