Summary of Book 1:
Paladin 1: Dauntless follows Kira, a woman who is lost in the desert with amnesia and is rescued by a farmer named Jace. As she recovers and helps defend the town of Copperwell against organized bandits, she discovers she's a highly trained operative called a Paladin from the Terran Empire.
Meanwhile, a ship captain named Tristan and his crew are running a scheme to get hired as security by staging bandit attacks, but their plans collide with Kira's, and they end up in direct conflict.
When one of Tristan's crew is captured and held hostage by a third party, Kira helps Tristan's crew free their man and fight off the real threat—mercenary hunters after someone on Tristan's ship. By the end, she's offered a place on his crew while also being welcomed as family by Jace and the farming community that sheltered her.
Kira chooses family and peace over more war, but her destiny is more complicated than that, and soon she's drawn into another conflict...
