A Quick Note on MQ

I've not been producing as much art the past little while ... smoke in the region I live hit a world record. Asthma has left me wiped pretty much most days. Only room in the house, with the extra air cleaner, is my main computer room. So I've been focusing on game development. It takes ever so long to create even the basics of a game - especially if I want to make it easy to extend in future.

Deciding on my main character spells has been interesting. Makayla is a fox girl and isn't terribly strong so she's not going to get any melee weapons. I've decided that the game is not about killing the enemy, just getting by them while you accomplish other tasks. So the spells are not the usual killing spells. She has a few single target spells: confuse (enemy wanders about aimlessly), fear (enemy runs away from the caster), and stun (enemy is knocked out). Some spells only apply to her: ghost (she becomes invisible), sprint (she gets a massive boost in her running speed) and shield (protects against enemy attack - both physical and magical). Some are Effect over Time (they have a big effect up front and then smaller hits for a fixed time): heal (both for herself and others) and shield (just for herself). Some target an area (anything in the zone gets affected): swarm (calls an angry swarm of hornets down on the targets) and freeze (freezes them, immobile, where they were hit).

I'd half thought to add a transformation spell so she can become a fox and get into tighter places. Haven't decided on that one yet though. It means finding a rigged fox model and working out some kind pf [article system for the transition. We'll see.

Anyway, at the current time, I've got all the special effects for the spells done as well as the underlying controller code to handle them. I've got the terrain generator, cave generation and level layout code working as well. Still way too much to do before I release a prototype over on Steam, though.

Comments

Ok this game is already sounding hella interesting! solving problems rather than just grind to power through them!
