We'll skip right over the (un)welcome surprise. Octavia already filled in you as to why he was there.
I will say, Stacy (the other Lariat receptionist) was played Kim Stolz... she had won the cameo during ANTM (America's Next Top Model. Yes, I used to watch it... I think stopped watching next season/cycle) that year. Also, Rat Saw God is the name of a novel Rob had written a decade earlier.
Yeah, Abel and Amelia Koontz were victims of the "class war" in Neptune. They would never have had to take money from the Kane's otherwise. And then Amelia's greed (also born of said inequality) led to her death. Which is a brutal bit of karma... Koontz taking the money allowed for Aaron to remain free after killing Lilly... and then his own daughter was killed by an equally as pathetic guy that she was "dating" at the time π
Gia has terrible taste in... DICK (who did comment on the smell at the back of the bus to Ms. Dumas in 'Normal Is The Watchword') π
Clarence and V team up was SO GOOD π
I finished my S4 rewatch last night, just before this was posted. And I am proud of myself for not just crying throughout your reaction to this episode π€ͺ

Is Veronica really the one who is "bad influence" on Keith when he as her father was likely the "bad influence" on her first? π
A packed episode in the typical season 2 fashion. There are just so many great things about this episode (Veronica and Keith moments, showing how big of a hole Wallace's absence left, Cliff's funny lines, Keith's and Logan's conversations with Aaron, Veronica and Clarence's unexpected team up etc.) Logan has to go somewhere with his house being burnt down and of course his best friend with whom he's recently reconciled would offer him to stay with him. Surely that won't make things awkward for Veronica whatsoever...
I wouldn't say that believing Veronica lying to Abel about his daughter is for the best is a controversial take, I think it's a fairly common sentiment. She knows Abel has a few days to live at most and the whole reason he took the fall for Lilly's murder was so that Amelia would be taken care of with the settlement money. It was the decision of either having him spend the last days relieved his daughter was safe even if she probably won't make it to him in time or spending his last days knowing how everything he went through for his daughter's sake was for naught. I never thought of it before you mentioned it, but it is an interesting parallel to Veronica lying to Amelia in the previous season. I'd say the major difference between the two lies is that Veronica lied to Amelia for her own goals rather than thinking of what would be fair to her and for Abel she belives it's for the best for his peace of mind even if it's still an extremely messed up situation. As you said, the story of this family is absolutely tragic.

At the time... VM getting that cameo was a real coup. Joss Whedon had highly praised the 1st Season of Veronica Mars. Telling Entertainment Weekly it was the "Best. Show. Ever." and that he'd "never gotten more wrapped up in a show I wasn't making, and maybe even more than those."
